twelve.

one quick thing. I have been saying Sid is 18 this whole time, but he's actually 17. sorry for the mix up!

June 25, 2005

Once again, Kay woke up in her bed on a Tuesday morning as happy as ever. Yesterday had been such a good day, she could do it everyday. She got up, got a shower and brushed her teeth, before putting some jean shorts and a tee shirt on. While she was putting a little bit of makeup on, her phone started ringing. She looked at the caller ID and noticed it was Sid.
"helloo" she said happily
"hey you, whats up?" Sid said on the other end.
"nothing just getting ready for the day. what are you up to?"
"driving to the gym right now. do you have plans for today?" he asked
"i'm not sure. i was hoping i could hang out with a guy named Sidney... but he has a lot of things to get done and i just spent one of the best days ever with him. i think i need to share him with the rest of the world," she joked. She could tell Sid was smiling.
"I think he can make time for such a beautiful girl like you, cant he?" he played along, and Kay just laughed, then he continued. "you should come over tonight."
"alright. what time?"
"seven good?" he asked, making sure it was ok.
"Yeah that's fine. Do you want me to bring anything?" she thought he might want her to bring a movie or something.
"nope i think we're good." he answered, to her surprise. Sid pulled into the parking lot of the gym and put the car in park. Kay was just about to ask him about something, but he started talking again. "ok well i gotta go. i'll text you when i'm done." he assured.
"Ok i'll talk to you later, then." Kay said, disappointed that she didn't get to ask him what she wanted.
"you ok?" Sid asked, sensing the tone she had taken.
"oh. yeah i'm good. go tone those muscles." she managed to chuckle a little and Sid did the same
"i'll try" he smiled "talk to you soon"
"byee" They ended the conversation, and right after Kay hung up, Cass was calling
"hey cass" she greeted
"Kay! we have to do something today i'm being deprived of you." Cass said in a panic, and Kay began laughing.
"ok well i'm going to see Sid tonight at seven but we can probably do something til then?"
"of course you're going to see him." Cass interjected, "you two are never apart, i swear."
"i'm sorryy" Kay whined knowing Sid had been stealing her away from her best friend a lot.
"it's ok i understand... i mean... if i had that i would be with him all the time too" Cass chuckled.
"yeah he's pretty amazing, not to brag or anything" Kay poked back. "alright what are we gonna do"
Cass thought for a minute, then answered. "i'm craving some ice cream and i think we should probably go shopping."
"ok. ice cream and shopping it is. Come over at 12:30" Cass and Kay were so used to making plans with each other, they just got straight to the point. Cass agreed to be at Kay's house at 12:30, and they hung up the phone. Sure enough, Cass pulled into the driveway and Kay met her at her car. She got into Cass's passenger seat and they headed towards the town of Sewickley to get ice cream. They drove to Ross Park Mall eating their ice cream and talking about anything and everything. Before they knew it, they pulled into the parking lot of the mall and walked through the doors of Forever 21. They started looking around, then Sid texted Kay just as he promised.
miss me? he typed
yes!
haha what are you up to?
at the mall with Cass
sounds fun. are you ok? you sounded like you needed to say something on the phone before.
Sid, i promise you, i'm perfectly fine.
ok.. well i'll let you have fun with Cass.
k. can't wait to see you :) me either :)
"Is Sid stealing my time with you again?!" Cass joked.
"yep" Kay smiled and shut her phone. Cass just laughed and shook her head.

At the end of their day, Kay didn't buy anything. She had enough stuff, and she didn't have a job this summer so she didn't have a lot of money. Cass, however, bought a few outfits that Kay and her decided were perfect. Cass dropped Kay off at her house around 5 and instructed her to have fun with "her boy toy" tonight. Kay assured her she would and headed into her house. She heard her mom in the kitchen getting dinner ready, so she went to give a hand
"hey mum"
"hi honey how was your day" her mom asked
"good. what are we eating for dinner?" Kay leaned on the counter and watched her mom kneed the ball of dough on the counter top.
"Stromboli" Her mom answered with a smile. Kay loved Stromboli.
"yesss" Kay said as she sat down at the island. "i'm gonna go see Sid after dinner. is that alright?"
"that's fine" her mom showed no expression. Kay sat there for a few more moments then decided to go up to her room. She sat on her bed and thought about what she wanted to talk about with Sid tonight. The whole college thing. Even though she didn't show it a lot, she was really worried about going to college. She wondered why Sid didn't consider college? She knew he was one of the best hockey players in the world, but didn't he want to experience it? And when she went to college, would they still be together? The sound of Leland's voice snapped her out of it.
"Kay it's time to eat" he yelled up the stairs
"Ok!" she replied. She shook the thoughts out of her head. She wouldn't be moving into her dorm for another two months. It was way too early to be thinking about all this, she knew that, but that's just how she was; worrying about everything.
After dinner, she cleaned up the kitchen, then headed over to see Sidney. She was about 15 minutes early but she knew he wouldn't mind. It took her only about two minutes to walk over to the Lemieux's, and when she got there she went to the front door and knocked. She heard Sid almost running down the steps to open the door.
"hey" he smiled and let her in. He was in a pair of blue gym shorts and a white rbk tee shirt. She didn't say anything, she just smiled back. She noticed the house was quiet.
"where is everyone?"
"they all went out to dinner with a family friend or something." Sid responded, and started up the stairs. Kay slipped her shoes off and followed. They walked down a long hall way to the other end of the house. He opened the door to his room and entered.
"you're quiet..." Sid stated, sitting down down his bed. Kay sat down next to him and sighed, looking up to meet his gaze.
"yeah i was with Cass today and all she talks about is going to college. it's kinda freaking me out" she chuckled, realizing how stupid she sounded.
"College is going to be fun. don't stress over it." sid said. "besides, it's two months away. you still have time."
Kay nodded, "yeah you're right." she faintly smiled, "how come you didn't wanna go to college?"
"well.. i dont know.. i did consider it. I just always thought it wasn't for me." he paused. "I got offers from Maine, North Dakota, and Notre Dame during my sophomore year, and i was really considering them. But i knew hockey was what i was gonna end up doing and i just wanted to do that."
"i see" Kay nodded, completely understanding where he was coming from. Who wouldn't wanna make millions of dollars a year ASAP?
"but you're lucky. you're gonna have the time of your life, trust me." he smiled. Kay laughed thinking about the future. "so what do you wanna do?" Sid asked.
"hm. i don't know. this conversation really put a downer on the whole night." Sid knew Kay was obviously joking and laughed.
"oh come on" he poked Kay in the stomach and she laughed harder. She playfully shoved Sid away and he fell off the bed. Kay got up to walk away. "hey" Sid grabbed her ankle and pulled her back. Kay couldn't hold back her laughter as she got pulled to the ground and began to attempt to crawl away. Sid pulled her back and pinned her to the floor, still with huge grins on their faces. They looked into each others eyes yet again.
"maybe you should have been a wrestler." Kay managed to say while she caught her breath.
"mm maybe.." Sidney leaned down and pressed his lips to Kay's. She rolled over so she was pinning him down and they broke apart.
"Lets go outside." She said, getting off of him. She went down the stairs with Sid following and they went out to the driveway. Kay picked up the basketball.
"i can't play basketball." Sid stated.
"me either" Kay smirked and continued to play around with the ball. "so. since i'm meeting your parents tomorrow, what should i know about them?" She asked.
"well, my dad's pretty conservative but he's nice. And you'll get along fine with my mom she likes you already." Kay smiled and passed him the basketball. "my little sister taylor's coming too. she's as old as Leland." He shot the ball and it bounced off the rim.
"What time will they be here?" Kay asked.
"their flight gets in at 2 in the afternoon, so I'm gonna pick them up at the airport after i workout." he dribbled a few times and shot the ball again, making the basket this time. "and then we can all go out to dinner around 6... the Lemieuxs are coming with us. i forgot to tell you."
"ok cool. sounds like fun." Kay approved. "do they know about the whole situation with my parents.." she asked timidly.
"Yeah i told my mom. She understands. People don't get along all the time." Sid answered nonchalantly. Kay felt relieved.
"ok good... So do you want me to meet you at the restaraunt or what" Kay needed to know all the plans cause she couldn't screw it up. Sidney laughed and walked over to her, looking down into her eyes.
"Kay, i'll pick you up and we can meet them all there. Don't worry about it." he could sense she was nervous. She never stopped worrying. Kay just smiled.
"alright. i'll try not to, but i'm still going to." She gave him a quick peck on the lips, catching him off guard, then grabbed the basketball out of his hands with a devilish grin. "lets play"
"what?" Sid smiled
"play a game, Sid." kay laughed.
".. i remember the last time we played a game" Sid tried to stifle his laughter remembering the night on the hood of the car.
"me too" Kay said, remembering the event as well. "but this game is different. it's basketball" she chuckled.
"ok" Sid agreed.
"game to five" Kay stated spinning the ball in her hands.
"and if i win i get to kiss you" Sid added. Kay made a confused face because they kissed all the time.
"deal" she smiled in agreement. They checked the ball and Kay got possession first.
"Brady with the ball. Taking an awful long time up there. I don't think she can handle Crosby." Sid narrated in a joking manner. He was really flat footed and Kay faked. Before Sid knew it, she went around him and shot the ball. It went off the back board and went in. "oh my god! she beat crosby! it went in!" he yelled. Kay flashed Sid a grin and gave him the ball. Sid just laughed. This time, he dribbled the ball waiting for Kay to make a move. She stood an arms length away just looking at him and waiting for him to do something. Finally, Sid decided to go. He tried to dribble past her and he nudged her away. He made the basket. 1-1.
Next, Kay decided to take a risk. She faked like she was going to dribble it in but stepped back and shot it. Somehow, it went in. "OH MY GOSH. Brady is on fire out there!" Kay yelled in her reporter voice. Sid just shook his head in defeat with a smirk on his face. Kay's confidence was building. Sid got the ball and tried doing the same exact thing he did the first time. Kay caught him and took the ball right off him. She shot and made it 3-1.
"oh come on" Sid stood there with his hands on his hips. "You're definitely not new at this."
"ok so i played til eighth grade.. that was like five years ago." Kay passed him the ball.
"What'd you eat for dinner tonight?" Sid asked out of nowhere while dribbling.
"Stromboli, why?" kay answered
"I think you got some on your shirt." Sid pointed and she looked down. He sprinted around her and practically dunked the ball. 3-2
"That wasn't even fair!" Kay jokingly complained. Sid just shrugged. Once again, she stood there with the ball. "Sid"
"what." Sid responded with a sly look on his face.
"you know what i really want?" she said, still dribbling.
"what do you really want?"
"i really want you." her tone was so flirtatious, and Sid stood up. He approached her and leaned in. Right away, Kay ducked under him and went in for the lay up. 4-2.
"ok. that was just plain mean" Sid pouted. Kay handed him the ball and pecked him on the cheek which made him smile. This was it, the ball was his. He had to be smart. He couldn't get beat by his own girlfriend. However, his dribbling really sucked. He held it out in plain sight and Kay grabbed it again, shot it, and made it.
"wow. do i still...?" sid said as he grabbed his crotch. "nope i think they're gone." Kay burst out laughing uncontrollably. Sid couldn't help but laugh himself. He'd never played basketball and he thought he put up a pretty good fight, so he wasn't mad about it.
"Sid we never said what i got if i won." she said when she could breathe again.
"ok what do you want" sid sighed dramatically, pretending to be utterly devastated.
"I want whatever you want." Kay smiled. The look on Sid's face turned to a grin and he pulled her closer by her waist.
"wait. is this another trick?" he squinted his eyes in a suspicious look, and pulled his head back. Kay shook her head no. "good," he said, clearly satisfied. He slowly leaned in, tilting Kay's chin up with his hand. Softly, he pressed his lips onto hers, weaving his tongue into the space between. Kay leaned on him as she got a weak sensation running through her body, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. When they finally parted, Kay didn't want to open her eyes, afraid that this all was some kind of bizarre day dream. She looked up to see Sid there. He licked his lips and smiled. Holy crap.

eleven.

This one's for allison. enjoy.

June 24, 2005

On Monday, Sid asked Kay if they wanted to hang out.
"but you have to workout and practice today." she said over the phone.
"i just have to go to southpointe and skate, i finished my work out" he said in a hopeful tone.
"ok well do you wanna do something after practice?" she assumed he would go to practice and come right back as always.
"well why don't you come with me?" Sid said. Kay thought for a moment then made sure he wanted her to.
"Yeah sure, i mean, if you want me to"
"of course i want you to" Sidney laughed a little, and Kay smiled. He never stopped making her smile. "i'll pick you up at two. We can go out to eat after."
"sounds perfect" Kay said.
"alright good. ill talk to you soon" Sidney ended the conversation and Kay hung up the phone. She went up to her room to talk to Cass on the phone, and put on some straight leg jeans, a nice top, and flip flops. She told Cass her plans, as usual, and Cass blabbed on and on about how great of a guy Sid was... as usual. Kay just laughed and agreed. He really was a great guy.

When it got to be 1:45, Kay said her goodbyes to Cass and headed downstairs. Her parents were both at work, and Leland was at a friends house for the day so she just sent her mom a text saying she wouldn't be home for dinner. When Sid pulled into the driveway, she came outside before he could get out and go to the door. She opened the door for herself and slid into the passenger seat of the mercedes, giving Sid a kiss on the cheek that made him smile.
"hi" he chuckled
"hey" she said cheerfully.
"why are you so happy?" Sid questioned as he looked into the rear view mirror to back up.
"i dont know. i'm happy to see you." she looked at Sid
"i'm happy to see you too" he smiled.

They drove to southpointe in a little over 20 minutes. When they got in, Kay let Sid go into the locker room and sat on the cold bleachers waiting for the guys to come out. They finally came surging out onto the ice, and Sid was as focused as ever. Everything he did, no matter what it was, he tried his hardest. Kay was definitely impressed. He was really good, and it was then that she realized just how good he was and how good he was.
The guys ran a few drills then scrimmaged. Sid scored two goals and had one assist. He was dripping in sweat when he left the ice, signing a few autographs on the way out. Kay waiting in the lobby of the rink for him to come out, and when he did he was fresh again and smelled like axe. He had a pair of shorts on and a tee shirt.
"ready?" he asked kay as they walked to the car
"yep." she glanced at the clock in the car. It was only 4:30. "it's only 4:30 though"
"i know." Sid was always so mischievous.
"soo what are you thinking" she asked with a confused look.
"you'll see" he smiled. Kay just sat there knowing he wasn't going to crack. She noticed that they were going back towards their houses and her eyebrow furrowed in confusion
"sid why are we going home"
"you'll see" Sid replied once again with his eyes fixed on the road.
They pulled into the Lemieux's driveway, and Sid put the car in park. Kay had an irritated look on her face.
"I thought we were going to dinner" she stated. Sid turned to her.
"Mario and Nathalie wanted you to come over for dinner. Just give them a chance. Please." He looked her right in the eyes.
"ok." she pecked him on the lips. "that's all you had to say in the first place. jeez." She opened the door and got out and a smile came over sidney's face. They held hands and walked into the garage, going through the door that led to the laundry room and out into the living room.
"Hey guys come sit down dinner's just about ready!" Nathalie yelled from the kitchen. Sid motioned for Kay to follow and she did. They went into the kitchen room where all the kids were setting the table. Nathalie was getting the food and Mario was helping. It was a little awkward at first.
"Hi Kay, how are you" Nathalie greeted, putting on a smile. She didn't seem to mind Kay at all.
"Hi I'm pretty good. thanks for having me." Kay said as Sid urged her to sit next to him, pulling a chair out for her.
"no problem", she set the spaghetti on the table with a smile. "Kay these are my daughters, stephanie and alexa. And this is my son, Austin." she said, motioning to the kids sitting at the other end of the table.
"Nice to meet you all" Kay smiled warmly at them all, then at Sid. He gave her a reassuring look. Nathalie and Mario sat down at the table and began to pass food around.
"How was practice?" Mario asked Sid.
"good we just did a couple drills. the usual." he answered, dishing out a pile of spaghetti onto his plate. He put some on Kay's plate and she thanked him.
"That's good. Keep working and we're gonna be a good team this year" Mario looked up at Sid, then stole a quick glance at Kay. "kay did you enjoy watching the guys? it can be pretty boring sometimes" he chuckled.
"Oh no, it wasn't boring at all. it was fun to watch" she smiled "they're good."
The conversation continued between the family just like it was a normal night. Sidney talked about Kay starting school at Duquense in August.
"well that's nice that you'll be close to home" Nathalie pointed out
"yeah i don't think i'll be getting home sick anytime soon" she smiled.
"And, you know, you and Sid will be able to see each other so thats good.." Mario said, still looking at his food. Kay knew it was sort of hard for him to say it, but he just wanted to try to be friends. He was completely aware that Sid and Kay were together now.
"yeah definitely." Sid interupted. "here, i'll take your plate." He reached over for Kay's plate and set it on the counter along with everyone elses. Nathalie told the kids to go play and they sprinted out the door to the driveway. There was a silence while everyone got situated again and the table was cleared off. Kay sat across from Mario and Nathalie, while Sid was trying to be helpful by putting some things away.
"Kay, i just wanted to tell you it was a pleasure having you here. I would really like to put everything that happened in the past" Mario spoke up in his dominant voice.
"Thanks for having me. & yeah i would like that, too" she faintly smiled.
"We're really sorry about what happened. Mario got a little carried away." Nathalie shot Mario a "look" and Kay could see he was sorry. He wanted the best for Sid and she assumed Sid had talked to him about her, probably making it clear that they were together.
"Yeah i understand. no hard feelings." Kay shook her head in agreement. Sid was standing at the counter clearing off some of the dishes still listening to the conversation. When he realized there was a gap in the conversation, he turned around to face them.
"so i think we're gonna get going." he walked over the table, "Nat the food was great thanks a lot." he smiled
"you're welcome. anytime you need anything, kay, we're right down the street." she said to Kay
"thanks so much Mrs. Lemieux. I appreciate it." Kay got up from her chair and walked over to Sid. He said something to Mario who was sitting at the table with his glass of whine, then grabbed Kay's hand and headed out the front door onto the driveway.
"come on i'll walk to you home" Sid gently tugged her hand.
"ok" she agreed happily. they walked along the sidewalk.
"i told you to give them a chance" Sidney looked at her with a smirk.
"yeah... what did you do to them?!" she laughed
"well i told them you were my girlfriend now and that it would be easier to make amends.. basically." he shrugged.
"ah, i see."
He squeezed her hand ever so slightly and nudged her with his shoulder, knowing she was thinking something else. "but i didn't force them to do anything if that's what you're thinking. that was all them."
"really?" she looked up at him
"yep."
They strolled into the driveway and went up to Kay's front door, which was unlocked. Her parents and Leland were home eating dinner since it was only about 5:45.
"wanna come in?" Kay asked as she opened the door. Sid smiled and gave a skeptical look. "come onnn" she pleaded with an inviting grin. He followed her into the house where he took off his tennis shoes and Kay slipped off her flip flops.
"hey mom. hi dad. leland" she greeted everyone and everyone said hi back, then they noticed Sid following behind her.
"hi mrs. brady, mr. brady" he nodded. They forced a smile back. "hi Sid."
"Sid this is Leland" Kay briefly introduced the boys, and Sid waved. Leland gladly waved back with an added 'hi'. He liked Sid. "we're gonna go watch a movie" Kay said, thinking of something to do off the top of her head. Sid didn't argue. Her mom and dad nodded and continued on with their dinner as Sid and Kay exited the kitchen, walking downstairs to the carpeted basement. It had couches and TV. "wanna watch a movie?" she finally asked.
"sure" Sid answered, plopping down on the tan leather couch.
"ok. I think we should watch my favorite." she smirked, turning around and holding up the case.
"Happy Girlmore?" Sid questioned with an 'are you kidding' smile.
"yep"
"ok. we can watch that." he agreed. He just wanted to be with Kay. She turned the lights out, put the dvd in, and sat down next to him. He put his arm around her and she leaned on him with her legs curled up on the couch. The movie started and they sat in silence watching it. Every now and then Sid looked down at Kay who was intently watching the movie. They got to the part where Happy takes the girl on a date at an ice rink. Sid noticed Kay smiling at the part.
"i'm gonna do that with you" he chuckled. Kay looked up at him.
"oh really" she smiled
"yeah" they looked each other in the eyes. Kay just laughed. "you don't think i'm serious?!" his voice got higher.
"no i believe you!" she said
"good" Sid leaned down and kissed Kay on the lips, holding it a little longer than usual.

When the movie ended, it was only 7:15. They sat on the couch and talked.
"i wanna take you somewhere." Sid said
"where?" Kay questioned
"pfft. i really can't tell you this one." he smiled that mischievous smile. He had been texting on his phone the whole movie practically.
"ok... well, i'll tell my parents we're going.. somewhere" She got up off the couch and Sidney came upstairs with her. She yelled out to the back porch where her parents were sitting, telling them that she was going with Sid and would be back before 11.
"ok be careful" her mom warned.
"no later than 11 kay" her dad said in a stern voice. Before they got out the door Sid told Kay to get some socks, so she ran up to her room, grabbed socks, and then they headed out to her car. She threw her keys to Sid.
"it's all yours"
"you want me to drive?" sid asked.
"yeah go ahead"

Sidney drove the two of them to Southpointe for the second time that day. Kay didn't have a clue what was going on. They went into one of the locker rooms, and Sid grabbed his skates out of his hockey bag. He always left his bag there for when they practiced. Suddenly, it hit her. She knew what was going on. Sid saw her face and smiled a huge toothy grin.
"What size shoe are you?" he asked
"8" she answered. Sid grabbed some skates and gave them to her. "are you serious" she laughed.
"i told you" he slipped the skates on his feet and tied them. Kay did the same. He offered her his hand and helped her off the bench in the locker room, out to the ice. He skated backwards waiting for her to step on, and grabbed her hand. She was actually good at ice skating. Her dad played, so he taught her to skate at a really early age.
"you're pretty good" He smiled as he skated backward, pulling her with him.
"Thanks... you need some work. not gonna lie." she joked. Sidney was looking around like he was waiting for something, and he wouldn't stop fidgeting. "what's the matter" she asked. Suddenly, before Sid could answer, "endless love" came on and Kay's jaw dropped. "Sid, you are seriously insane!" she yelled. He just started laughing.
"i just want to make you happy." he pulled her closer so their bodies were pressed against each other.
"well you've succeeded all my expectations"
"have i?" Sid asked jokingly.
"yes. this was such a good day." Kay breathed. Their faces were so close. Sid's lips came crashing down on hers, and his hands ran up her back, sending shivers up her spine. After they broke apart, they continued to skate around the rink hand in hand. Today had been one of the most fun days Kay had in a long time. Watching NHL players practice, making friends with her enemy, watching her favorite movie with her favorite person, and something completely unexpected at the very end. All thanks to one 17 year old guy named Sidney Crosby.

ten.

June 23, 2005

Kay opened her eyes and rolled over to check the clock. "11:00 am". She let out a loud groan, then noticed Sid passed out on the floor. "so much for not drinking" He was in his boxers with his face smooshed against the pillow. She lay there for a while, then sat up. Sid heard her and opened his eyes, looking up at Kay.
"how's the floor treatin' ya?" kay asked
"amazing" Sid said sarcastically, and Kay scootched over, patting the open space on the bed. Sid smiled and got up to sit on the bed.
"i feel like crap" Kay groaned and held her forehead.
"yeah you were pretty beat up last night. i almost had to take advantage of you." Sid said jokingly. Kay playfully pushed him off the bed. "i was kidding!" he laughed. Kay grabbed her dress off the end of the bed, pulled it over her head and got up.
"we better go, i need an Advil and you have important stuff to do" she stated, picking up her shoes and checking herself in the mirror. Sid got up and pulled his pants on along with his shirt. The two went downstairs to find numerous people on the living room floor. They just stepped over them, and Sid grabbed the keys out of the jar labeled "you're not driving", on their way out the door.
On the ride home, Kay and Sid talked about the night before, and Sid elaborated on how Kay said his lips were nice, he was hot, and how she was aggressively coming on to him- something she definitely would not do while sober. They couldn't stop laughing. "it was the alcohol talking, i swear." Kay laughed.
Sid dropped Kay off at her house. The two didn't share a kiss this time, though. Kay didn't worry about it. When Sid got home, he explained to Nathalie why he stayed and Nathalie completely understood. However, they opted not to tell Mario. Sid decided today could be an off day; he didn't work out or skate. Instead, he took nice long shower, then a nap. Kay did the same thing.
He woke up around 2 in the afternoon and texted Kay.
"how you feeling?"
"good now that i took a nap"
"thats good :) wanna go out tonight?"
"of course i want to go out if you're up to it"
"dinner?"
"sounds perfect :)"
"alright, i'll pick you up at 6."
"can't wait"

5:00. Once again, it was time for Kay to pick something stunning to wear. First, she informed her parents of her plans and they both nodded knowing it would be a waste of time to say anything else. Then, she called Sid and held the phone to her ear with her shoulder as she rooted through her closet.
"Hey" he answered.
"Sid" she said when he picked up.
"yes?" he was smiling on the other line, thinking what could she possibly want now.
"what do i have to wear?"
"something nice.. kinda dressy. but you always look nice so no worries."
Kay laughed, "ok then. see you at 6." She hung up the phone and tugged a dress from the back of the closet. It was a gray cocktail dress, and she knew Sid would like it. After admiring her selection, she crouched down to the ground to look for some shoes. She picked up a pair of gray ones that would go perfect with the dress. Next, she put on makeup, and it was a tiny bit darker than the night before but not too much; she had a feeling Sid didn't like girls that looked fake. After her makeup, she curled her hair into spiral curls and went downstairs to say goodbye to Leland and her parents who were at the dinner table. She kissed her mom and dad on the cheek- her dad was becoming less bitter about the whole situation. She gave Leland a hug, and heard the door bell. When she opened the door, Sidney stood there trying not to stare. He was about to say something, but he saw Kay's family sitting at the dinner table. He waved and smiled. Kay took Sid's hand and closed the door behind her.
"Is it me or do you look better every time i see you." Sid stated.
"mm.. i think its just you" Kay answered, getting into the car as Sidney opened the door for her. She examined him. He had on black dress pants, dress shoes, and a white dress shirt with vertical strips going down it."where to?" she asked.
"I'm taking you to one of my favorite restaurants." Sid replied as he backed out of the driveway.
"and you're not gonna tell me which it is." kay laughed, she knew how he was.
"nope" he smiled. Kay changed the subject.
"so i was thinking.. I have known you for almost a month now" she declared. It was june 23 now.
"yeah you're right." Sid looked at her and gave her a smile of satisfaction. She could tell he was thinking of something by the look in his eyes.
They arrived at the restaurant 25 minutes later, and it was Mortons. Kay had never been there but Sid said it was one of his favorites. He had already made the reservations and asked to be seated near the back, so when they walked in they were immediately seated. Sid pulled out Kay's chair then sat down in his own.
"thanks for taking care of me last night" Kay said as she looked at the menu. Sidney smiled, trying not to laugh.
"no problem"
"i don't know how I'm going to survive in college." She chuckled.
".. me either" Sid laughed. He couldn't help it. He saw the anxiousness in Kay's face. "you'll be fine." The waiter came over to take their drink orders. Kay got a strawberry lemonade and Sid got a water. They continued to look at their menus and chat until the waiter came around again to take their food orders. Sid ordered a steak, and to Sid's surprise, so did Kay. Every girl Sid had taken out would always get something really small or a salad, but besides her Irish side, Kay was also an Italian girl- she was raised that way. For some reason, Sid thought it was attractive, and he smiled.
"What?" Kay asked, confused.
"nothing" Sid said.

They ate their dinners which were absolutely delicious and Kay couldn't shut up about it.
"I told you it was good" Sid said
"i'll never doubt your judgment again" she smiled. Sid payed, and he walked behind Kay out of the restaurant to the car, once again opening the door for her. On the way home, Kay could tell there was something on Sid's mind. He kept looking out the window, adjusting his hands on the steering wheel, and licked his lips several times within the 25 minutes it took to get home. When he pulled into Kay's driveway, he got out, let Kay out, and walked her to the door. Kay opened the door to go inside when Sid stopped her.
"So my parents are coming to visit on Wednesday for week." he said. Kay closed the door.
"really?"
"yeah. I really want you to meet them"
"i'd love to" She smiled. Sid looked down and kicked a rock around.
"cool," he paused, "but um, i was wondering, you know, if i could introduce you as my girlfriend" he looked up and Kay tilted her head to the side, her smile growing wider.
"i'll gladly be your girlfriend, sid." Sidney eased up, looking into kay's eyes with a smile, and stepped closer to her. He kissed her goodnight, and they could both feel eachother smiling.
"i'll call you tomorrow" he said, his face still close to hers.
"ok., goodnight" she said as she stepped into her house, still looking at Sid. He stood there with his hands in his pockets and a toothy grin on his face. When she closed the door, she watched him through the window as he walked back to the car with a little hop in his step. "wow" was all she thought. Since when was luck on her side?

nine.

(still june 15)

That night, Sid drove Kay home. They shared one more long kiss at her door before they left each other.

June 16, 2005

The next day was Saturday, and it was rainy. After Sid did his normal morning workout, he called Kay and asked her if she wanted to come over. Of course, Kay said yes. They watched Wedding Crashers in the Lemieux's basement- Mario knew Kay was there but he just ignored her presence, just as her dad ignored Sid. It didn't seem to phase her though, as long as she was with Sid she was fine.
As they sat on the couch in the basement, Sid stole kisses from Kay and she sat with her head on his shoulder, her long legs stretched out across his lap. He had his arm around her. Kay suddenly spoke up, "My friend Cass is having a party on Friday. You should come with me."
"I don't know.." Sid was skeptical. He had alot on his shoulder and couldn't afford to do something stupid.
"Come on, it'll be fun." Kay pleaded.
"I guess i'll go. Somebody's gotta keep you in line." He chuckled and pecked her on the cheek, making Kay's nose wrinkle. "how are your parents letting you go to this party?"
"Just cause it's a party doesn't mean there's gonna be alcohol.."
"Oh come on kay i'm not stupid" Sid smiled.
"ok fine. Well i told my parents it was a sleepover thing, so I'm supposed to stay the night. And you don't have to drink. You don't even have to stay for that long i promise." Kay looked down and tangled her fingers with Sid's.
"alright. We'll just take one of their cars then. You can go with me and i'll drive myself home at the end of the night." He said, talking about the Lemieux's cars.
And so the plans were made, they would go to the party on Friday night.

June 22, 2005

The rest of the week Sid was busy with stuff for reebok, the team, and his own work outs. It was like that most of the time during the weekdays, and Kay expected it. She had some knowledge of all the expectations weighing down on him. They talked on the phone every night for the rest of the week, though, until it was Friday. Sid came over unexpectedly around 12 pm on Friday, and Kay gave him the biggest hug when she saw him. They went up to her room and sat on the carpeted floor talking and watching TV. The time flew by too fast and Sid checked the clock which read 7:13.
"I'm gonna go get ready now. I'll pick you up at 8:00 ok?" He said as he got up off the floor.
"ok sounds good" she replied, getting up as well. They walked down the stairs to the door, and Sid gave Kay small kiss before going out the door. As soon as he was gone, she ran back upstairs to get ready. She went through her closet trying to find the perfect thing to wear. Finally, she decided on a brown and yellow sundress paired with some tasteful yellow heels. She let her hair do it's own thing, creating a natural wave, and she put on some light makeup. When it was 8:00 she listened for the door. Sure enough, Sid was right on time and came to the door. When Kay answered, Sidney's eyes popped.
"wow you look amazing" he said in disbelief. Kay blushed.
"thanks you too" Sid was wearing a pair of dark wash jeans with a creme, collared shirt and dark brown flip flops. Kay grabbed her bag, linked her arm in Sid's, and headed to the car. The car ride was pretty silent, but it was a good silence; both had smiles on their faces. Kay directed Sid where to go, and it took about 15 minutes to get to Cass's house. When they pulled up it was packed with cars and they could hear the rap music from the street. Kay just looked at Sid.
"it's not like I've never been to a party" Sid said, reading Kay's mind and getting out to open her door. She got out and walked with Sid to the back yard where everyone was gathered. Obviously, Cass's parents weren't home.
"Cass!" Kay shouted when she saw her. Cass came over, beer in hand and hugged her.
"Who's this?" She asked with a devilish grin.
"This is Sidney, my neighbor" Kay practically yelled over the blasting speakers.
Cass was an idiot when it came to Pittsburgh sports, but everyone else in the party seemed to stare.
"oh nice to meet you Sidney" She extended her hand, and Sid took it.
"you too. call me Sid." he smiled. Before Cass walked away she elbowed Kay in approval of him and Kay rolled her eyes and smiled. She also shoved a beer into Kay's hand as well as Sid's. Kay just looked at it.
"Drink it" Sidney said. Kay gave a look of uncertainty and Sid took a sip of his. He pulled it away from his mouth, licked his lips, put his hand in his pocket and waited for Kay to make a move.
"K" she sipped. They both smiled at each other. Kay pulled Sid over to one of the tables where everyone was sitting and they took a seat. Sidney seemed to be having a nice time talking to all of Kay's high school friends and learning even more about her. It took him a little time to get used to everyone, but he did. They all sat talking for hours until it was nearly 1 AM.
By now, Sid and Kay were loosening up from the alcohol they were consuming. Kay was in the middle of a conversation when Cass and Kay's friend Ali pulled her out of her seat. She grabbed Sidney who gladly followed, and they were yanked over the the beer pong table.
"ok guys this is Sid and Kay and they're going to play now" Cass slurred. Kay and Sidney looked at eachother and just shrugged. They filled their cups and began.
As the game went on, it really hit Kay hard. She was a lightweight, obviously, and Sid found it kind of humorous. She was hanging all over him and kept repeating things over and over. Sid just laughed and continued to answer her repetitive questions.
"Sid. You're hot" She leaned on him
"really." he smiled and looked down at her.
"yes. yes."
"you're not bad yourself" he draped her arm around his shoulders.
"Sid" she said yet again
"yeah"
"you have really nice lips did i ever tell you that?" Now she was pecking him on the cheek.
"i don't think so" Sid laughed.
"well.. you are! i mean.. you HAVE nice lips. psht what am i saying sid?!"
The game ended and the two stepped aside.
"lets go in here.." Kay pointed inside and pushed Sid inside. They went up the stairs to Cass's room and she kissed his lips then his neck. Sidney was drunk but still knew what was going on.
"Kay you're drunk" he said, still smiling.
"I knoww" she breathed into his ear and pushed him against the wall.
"you don't actually want to do this," he said calmly
"Sid.. i know what i want to do" she slurred. He pulled her off him and gently held her face in his hands.
"trust me. you should just get some sleep" his voice was soft and his words were somewhat mushed together. Kay sighed and looked into his eyes.
"Ok but as long as you tuck me in" she smiled
"i will" He took her over the Cass's bed. She kicked off her shoes, and pulled her dress over her head, crawling into the bed. Sid pulled the covers up to her chin and kissed her forehead, then stumbled back over to the door. He went downstairs and found the party died down a bit. It was much quieter and there were just some people sitting around the fire pit on the patio.
"hey sid you should just crash here. you can't drive home" He heard Cass say from behind him. He thought for a minute and figured Nathalie would understand. She had told him not to "do anything stupid".
"ok yeah i think i will" He went back upstairs to the room Kay was in, grabbed a pillow and blanket, and fell asleep on the floor next to the bed Kay was sleeping in.

eight.

(still june 11)

Sidney walked Kay to her car. He leaned up against it, and so did Kay. They were still smiling at each other.
"Soo.. i really wanna do something with you this week" Kay spoke up.
"your dad pretty much hates me. I don't think he'd like that very much."
"my dad's just going to have to get used to it. He'll come around eventually."
Sid's face lit up. "ok"
Kay stood there waiting for something to happen. She was hoping he would kiss her or maybe ask her out, but he just stood there with that goofy smile on his face. She finally gave up and opened her car door, getting into the car and starting it. Sid leaned against the open door.
"Kay?"
"hmm?"
"you wanna go out this Friday night?" He asked with a huge grin.
FINALLY.
"i thought you'd never ask" Kay said as she buckled her seat belt.
"I know" Sid replied, shutting the door and walking to the car he drove.

That night, Kay went home and had a long talk with her parents. She told them she was going to see Sidney on Friday night and they would have to deal with it. For once, she was actually speaking her mind and it felt great. Kay's dad was ignoring her but that was the last thing that was on her mind. She knew that he couldn't stay mad forever. Her and Sidney texted each other everyday until it was finally friday.

June 15, 2005

Do you know what today is? Kay texted Sid as soon as she woke up
Friday. Sid replied. He was still wrapped in a towel fresh out of the shower.
good one! She said
Of course i know what today is!
Kay smiled, :)
With that, she got out of bed and got a shower. Afterward, she put some sweats on and did practically nothing for the rest of the day. She was on and off the computer, sat on the porch for a little while, made brownies, and she was anxious.
6:00 rolled around and she figured she'd better start getting ready, so she climbed the stairs to her room once more. Sid texted her as if right on Q.
I'll pick you up at 8
What should i wear? she asked. just jeans and a tee shirt
She thought about what to wear, then pulled out a pair of her favorite jeans and her favorite tee shirt. It was a plain green tee shirt, but it looked good on her. She straightened her hair and put on some makeup before putting on some of her favorite fragrance, slipping on her white tennis shoes, brushing her teeth, and heading downstairs. She sat on the stairs impatiently waiting for Sid. When he finally pulled into the driveway in the Mercedes, a smile grew on her face. She wasn't expecting it, but Sid got out of the car, approached the door, and knocked. She opened it right away.
"hey" she smiled
"you look nice"
"thanks" wow this guy's too good to be true.
Sid presented his hand and she took it. They walked over to the car; he opened the door for her of course.
"Can i know where we're going now?" Kay asked
"McDonalds" Sid said mischievously as he gripped the steering wheel. Kay just laughed. She noticed they were going up hills and the road was winding upward. She couldn't figure out where he could possibly be taking her, though. By now, the sun had set and it was getting dark.
They drove for another 15 minutes until they finally reached their destination. Kay's mouth dropped when she saw it and she immediately got out of the car when it was stopped. She put her hands on her hips and looked out over the hill at the city. It was breathe taking- she didn't know what to say. Sid got out of the car, leaving the music playing and the doors open so they could hear it.
"Wow.. How did you find this place?" she asked. Sid climbed onto the hood of the car, and Kay joined him. She sat cross legged next to him.
"Mario gave me a tour of the city when i first got here and he showed me it. It's awesome."
"yeah this is amazing"
"glad you like it" he smiled, still looking at Kay's expression of awe as she looked out over the city. He let her enjoy the view, then she snapped out of it and turned to see Sid staring at her.
"What?" she asked with a grin. Sid leaned back on the windshield.
"..Nothing." He chuckled. Kay did just as he did, and leaned back. She folded her hands across her stomach. The song "trust" by keyshia cole started playing on the radio. The two lay there looking up at the night sky.
"Look" Kay pointed "i think i see a hockey stick" she laughed
"i think you might be right!" Sid said, humoring her comment while he squinted to see the so called hockey stick.
"I wonder what's up there. I mean, where does it go? it can't go on forever" Kay studied. Sid let out a small laugh.
"you're asking the wrong person, i just play hockey"
"oh come on. you're smart" Kay turned onto her side and Sid just looked at her.
"eh.. i'm ok. But speaking of smart people... when do you start school?" he asked.
"august"
"oh. cool. what's your major?"
"Communications" Sid nodded his head and licked his lips, which drove Kay crazy. "Lets play a game" she suggested, and Sid also turned onto his side to face her.
"ok.. what game?"
"20 questions"
"K. You go first though" Sidney listened intently for Kay's question. She tapped her finger on her lips as she thought.
"What's your favorite movie?"
"wedding crashers" he smiled
"hm. never seen it."
"what?! you havn't lived. we're watching it." Kay laughed at Sid's excitement and he laughed. "ok my turn. Whats your favorite hobby?"
"i like running. I ran track in high school." Kay answered.
"Oh i never knew that. you should run with me." Sid offered.
"i don't know... i haven't ran that much this summer."
"well it's never too late to start" He said, obviously trying to convince her. She heard the song on the radio change to "so into you" by fabulous; it was one of her all time favorites.
"maybe... but right now it's my turn. what do you like to do? besides hockey"
"I like fishing." Kay was about to say something, but Sid continued. "and being with you of course."
"Aw how nice of you!" kay put her hand over her heart dramatically, then laughed, "Your turn.""
"Ok," Sid proped himself up higher on his elbow, "Can i kiss you now?" Kay just blushed and smiled her biggest smile.
"maybe" She said. Sid chuckled and leaned toward her til he was looking down at her with such intensity, it made Kay weak in the knees. He brushed the strand of hair out of her eyes, placed his hand on her cheek, and kissed her. It lasted only one minute, but she wished it could be like that forever. The whole night was so perfect; the perfect view, the music, and an alarmingly handsome guy by her side. It couldn't possibly get any better than this, or at least that's what she thought.

seven.

YAY PENS :D that game was unbelievable! Eastern conference finals, here we come.

---------------------------------------------
(Still June 3)

Kay took her dad into the kitchen and gave him a box of tissues, then wet a washcloth with warm water. She wiped her eyes, wrung the washcloth out, and sat down next to her dad at the table. He cringed when she touched his face.
"Sorry" she mumbled. Her dad didn't say anything, in fear that it would just turn into an argument. When all the blood was gone, Kay could see his face was pretty bruised up around the nose.
"do you want to go to the ER?" she asked
"No ill be fine." he replied in a stern tone. He got up and went back into the office, closing the door behind him. Kay sighed and rested her head in her hands, placing her elbows on the table. After a few minutes, she silently went upstairs and shut herself in her room. She was laying on her side on her bed when she heard a knock at her door, and the door cracked open.
"you ok?" Leland looked at her sympathetically.
"i'm fine" Kay answered. Leland sat on the edge of her bed.
"I heard what happened... maybe you and Sid should just cool it for a while."
"You think" she retorted sarcastically.
"..I'm here if you wanna talk, Kay." Leland said as he exited the room, and Kay nodded. Leland was right. If Sid and her caused this much trouble, maybe the whole thing was a bad idea. Kay soon got caught up in her thoughts, and drifted off to sleep.

June 11, 2005

One week went by. It was June 11th, and Sid hadn't called, sent a text, nothing. Truth is, he couldn't look at Kay without being reminded what a douche bag he was. He had been moping around all week- Mario and him hadn't talked about it- just as Kay and her Dad hadn't either. Sidney had been busy with his workouts and some team/media stuff, but it didn't keep him from thinking about Kay. He thought about her most at the end of the day when the sun set and the house grew silent. He wondered what she was doing and if she thought about him at all; he wouldn't be surprised if she didn't. However, Kay had thought about him each day and wondered when he was going to call, text, visit, something.
That night at Kay's dinner table, the dreaded subject came up.
"i don't want you to see Sidney." her dad said as he stabbed the dinner on his plate.
"I havn't talked to him in a week." Kay said, trying to keep her cool. Her mom and Leland were just sitting there.
"That's beside the point." Kay just subtly rolled her eyes, then her dad continued. "I don't want you to see him at all." He had a hint of anger in his voice this time, and he looked up to make eye contact with Kay. Kay set her utensils down on her plate and stared at her father.
"I'm 18"
"and i'm 45. i'm also your dad."
"you're ridiculous!" Kay raised her voice. The two shot insults back and forth.
"Why can't you just like Jacob. He's a very respectable young man! and you don't even appriciate it."
"respectable?! if it weren't for HIM, your nose wouldn't be like that, and none of this would be the way it is!" Kay's eyes were tearing up with anger.
"No. if it weren't for Sidney it wouldn't be like this!" Kay gave up tryiing to argue her point, she knew she'd never win. Kay's dad went on. "If you see that boy... then i'm done." He threw his hands in the air.
"You're done." Kay repeated
"I don't want anything to do with him or the Lemieuxs and if you get involved with him, then you have to do with him."
A tear rolled down Kay's cheek and her face grew hot with anger. The more her dad forbid her to see Sid, the more she wanted to. She got up from the table, went to her room, and locked the door. She flipped her phone open and dialed Sid's number. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she was still sobbing. The phone rang six times and he never picked up- She got his voicemail but didn't bother leaving a message.
At this point, she didn't know what to do. All she knew was that she had to get away from her lunatic parents. Without another thought, she grabbed a hoodie, her keys, her purse, and left the house. She didn't tell anyone she was leaving, but she was sure they heard her go out the door. After getting into her car, she turned it on and drove toward the city. The sun set as she contemplated where to go. Suddenly, she had an idea of where to go; it was a beautiful church in the city.
When she walked through the doors, it was pin drop quiet. She was the only one there, and she took a seat in a pew in the third row. She kneeled down and began to say her prayers. She asked for forgiveness for yelling at her dad, and she asked for guidance most of all. Her eyes started to well-up again, and when she was finished she sat back on the pew.
How did this get so bad... I've never treated my parents like that. My dad's never treated me like that, ever.
She was yanked from her thoughts by her cell phone vibrating in her purse. She snapped out of the trance and dug through it. Sidney was calling.
"Hey" Kay said softly
"hi" Sid had a sense of apology in his voice. "I saw that you called.." Before Kay could explain herself, Sidney started talking again. "Kay, I'm really sorry. I don't know why i did what i did. If you're upset i understand"
"I know" were the only words she could squeak out. Oh great, don't cry.
"what's the matter?" Sid asked softly. Kay sighed and ran her hand through her hair.
"things are just... really complicated." Her voice was shaky and Sid could tell something was wrong.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"Saint Paul Cathedral on North Dithridge."
"ok i'm leaving Southpointe right now, i'll be right there." He immediately said, and hung up without giving Kay the chance to protest.

Fifteen minutes later, Kay heard the doors open in the back of the church. She turned to see Sidney standing in the doorway. He made his way down the aisle with his hands in the pockets of his gym shorts to where Kay was sitting, and she slid over to make room for him. Sidney sat down and looked down at his shoes, not knowing what to say.
"I hate my dad." she blurted out.
"no you don't" sidney said, looking her in the eyes.
"well he's getting on my nerves." She looked at him and once again she got teary eyed. Sidney put his arm around her and consoled her.
"that's what dads do. They get on your nerves. What happened?"
"i was sitting at dinner and he was just like 'i never want you to see sidney'. i got really mad and i left." she said sobbing quietly. she leaned her head into his shoulder and let all her tears out one last time. Sid just sat in silence.

When Kay calmed down Sid finally said something.
"i miss talking to you and hearing your voice.. and running down the street to see you... and taking walks with you.. and climbing out of my window" Sid stated jokingly, going on and on like a little kid. Kay looked up at him and wiped her eyes. She smiled at what he said. "I like it when you smile" He said, smiling back, and Kay let out a small laugh.
"thanks for helping"
"anytime you need to talk, i'll be there." Sidney pulled his arm out from around her shoulders and nudged her with his elbow. "You better get home." He stood up and waited for her to follow.
"ugh. i don't want to go home." she whined, sinking a bit lower into the pew.
"too bad!" Sid chuckled, and pulled her by the hand.
"Ok Mr. Bossy Pants" Kay said jokingly. They started to walk towards the exit together.
"Mr. bossy pants? jeez that one hurt." They both laughed and Sid held the door open for Kay. For the first time in a week she was actually satisfied.

oh man.

So i'm thinking about updating tomorrow. Be on the look out. I would have updated last night but i went to the pens game and didn't get home til midnight.
Also, after ch. 7 or 8, the story isn't going to follow the plot of Romeo and Juliet as much. Of course, the families will most likely still dislike eachother and Sidney and Kay's relationship still won't be allowed. However, I'm not planning on making anyone die! That wouldn't be good :P

Thanks!

Six.

(Still June 2)

Sidney drove home and burst through the door, setting the keys on the kitchen counter. It was around 10:00 and nobody was downstairs so he didn't have to talk to anyone- which he liked. He went straight upstairs to his room and shut the door behind him forcefully, then shoved his hand in to his pocket in search of his phone. He took a deep breathe, trying to calm himself down. He knew Kay would have an explanation. She wasn't trying to be mean.
After he calmed down, he flipped his phone open and called Kay. It rang twice, then she answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey" sid said plainly
"Sid i am really really sorry i left like that!" Kay apologized for the 29457 time.
"it's ok, it's ok. but what happened?"
"Well this kid named Jacob has been trying to date me since 9th grade, and he's a family friend. I don't like him, personally. Anyway, i saw him looking at us through the window and since he saw us, he's probably gonna tell my parents.." she explained, biting her lip on the other line.
"oh... well it's ok.. it'll be fine. i promise." Sid's words made Kay feel better and she loosened up a bit.
"Thanks. ugh i just.. i can't stand him. & i don't understand why my parents and the lemieuxs have to be so immature and stubborn!"
"yeah tell me about it..." Sid mumbled. "sometimes people are like that." Sid glanced at the clock and figured he'd better get some rest if he wanted to get up to run tomorrow. "Well i have to get up early tomorrow. I'd love to keep talking, but i can't" Sid frowned
"aw okk, i guess i understand" Kay laughed softly, and sid smiled.
"Maybe we can do something tomorrow?"
"yeah maybe, call me." kay said
"for sure. sweet dreams."
"night, Sid."

June 3, 2005

The next morning, Sid did just as he planned and got up at 7:00 to go running. He ran about two and a half miles, and when he got back to the house he was sweaty and exhausted. He took a hot shower, then ventured downstairs to get some breakfast. He was not so pleasantly surprised to find a guest sitting at the table talking to Mario and Nathalie, who were also ready for the day and getting breakfast. It was Jacob.
Sid ducked behind the corner and quietly listened.
"How are you Jacob we haven't talked to you in a while!" Nathalie said while Mario sat behind his newspaper.
"I've been doing good. I saw Sid yesterday.."
oh shit. what the hell. Sidney thought.
"Really? yeah.. he went out last night." Nathalie replied as she poured herself some coffee.
"hm. He was with Kay Brady" There it was. It just came out.
'little bitch.' Sidney wanted to come out from behind the corner and beat the crap out of him so badly, but he controlled himself. Mario peered over his newspaper.
"oh really?" he said in an annoyed tone.
"Yeah they were taking a walk or something.." Jacob told him, matter of factly.
"hm." was all Mario said. Nathalie knew it was time for Jacob to go.
"Well we have a busy day today, you better be going." She told Jacob.
"Ok. I'll see you around!" he said as he walked out the door. Sidney quietly ran upstairs into his room where he began to pace back and forth, running his hands through his dark locks. He could hear Mario and Nathalie conversing downstairs. Nathalie told Mario he was blowing the situation out of proportion and Mario said something about giving Kay's dad a piece of his mind. Sidney was really pissed off at this guy. He really had a lot of nerve to come to the Lemieux's and tell them about Sid's personal business. After Sid thought about what to do, he knew he had to tell Kay.
"I can't believe im going to do this." he mumbled to himself as he opened his bedroom window. He looked down. It was two stories high, but he didn't want to go past Mario, so he did it anyway. First, he stuck his left leg out the window, then his right, and he proceeded to climb down the lattice. Half way down he thought "screw this" and just jumped off. He landed with a thud, got up, dusted himself off, then ran down the street to Kay's. He knocked on their door even though he knew her mom didn't really like him. Thankfully Kay answered.
"Sid! ...why are you all of breath?"
"i.. i just sprinted.. down here.. my.. your.. Mario" he said between breathes
"catch your breath first" Kay instructed. Once Sid could talk again he told Kay what happened.
"I came downstairs and Jacob was sitting at the table and he told Mario and Nathalie about us.. Mario wasn't too happy."
"great." was all she said.
"yeah..." Sid replied awkwardly.
"Well, come in. But try to be quiet." Kay stepped aside and let Sid in. She took his hand and led him up the stair to her room. She closed the door behind her. "I guess it's all out there now... who cares. This is ridiculous. We're 18 years old." Kay was getting a little angry now. Sid was just sitting on her bed watching her, his eyes wide. "i mean, i can date whoever i want to date." Sid shook his head in agreement.
"it's ok don't get so worked up. nothing's your fault." he managed to say. Kay sighed and sat down cross legged on her floor. The silence was broken by the voice of Kay's father talking to someone downstairs. The voice sounded all too familiar to Sid.. because it was Mario. The voices were getting louder and Kay's eyes widened as the conversation escalated.
"Your daughter is nothing but a distraction to that boy."
"oh come on! They're 18 years old! They make their own decisions!" Kay's dad shot back.
"Yeah?! well it's a little different when you're destined to be the face of the NHL, buddy!" Sid got up and went downstairs, giving Kay a comforting look before going down.
"What's going on?" He asked the two men.
"Sid, you shouldn't be here, you should be working out right now." Mario pulled Sid out the door to stand next to him. Kay was standing at the top of the stairs watching it all.
"You know, you have a lot of nerve coming to my house to confront me about my daughter." Kay's dad said in a disgusted tone.
"Keep her away from Sidney."
"My daughter is not doing anything wrong!" Kay's dad shoved Mario, and Sid's emotions went wild. Mario was like a father to him and if his real dad was pushed like that, Sid would punch the guy right in the face... so that's what he did. He punched Kay's dad right in the face. Kay's dad held his hand to his face as blood came rushing out. Sidney didn't even know what he just did. The look of anger turned into a look of suprise. What just happened? Kay came sprinting down the stairs to her father's side, and a tear streamed down her face. She didn't have to say anything. The look that she gave Sidney said it all. She shut the door without even telling them to leave, and Mario and Sidney just stood there in shock.

Five.

June 2, 2005

Kay woke up to a beautiful Sunday morning. She was smiling as soon as she woke up; she couldn't stop thinking about last night. Today, she decided to just lay in bed until 11:15, but when she finally got up, she took a shower, scrunched her hair, grabbed some coffee, and headed into downtown. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do. She just wanted to walk around and enjoy the sun.
Meanwhile, Sidney was at the gym-as usual- with some of his soon-to-be teammates that stayed in Pittsburgh all summer. He lifted weights and ran on the tread mill, then grabbed a bite to eat for lunch. When he arrived back at the Lemieux's, he got a showered, and ans soon as he was dried and dressed he texted Kay.
8:00 tonight?
Kay responded, sounds good to me. Sidney smiled to himself and texted her once more.
what are you up to?
Kay's phone vibrated again, and she flipped open as she walked along the sidewalks of downtown. just walking around downtown. doing a little window shopping.

oh well have fun. i'll see you tonight :)

yep can't wait :)

The rest of the day, Sid played street hockey in the driveway with Mario's son, Austin. Sid was celebrating his goal like he won the Stanley Cup, until Austin interupted.
"so where'd you go last night?" Sid stopped and didn't know what to say.
"what do you mean?" he asked with a confused look.
"you left at like 1 in the morning."
"oh... yeah... it's a long story. Don't tell your dad i left, ok?" Sid begged.
"I won't, don't worry. But tell me the story. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon." Austin sat down on the pavement off to the side. Sid looked at him and leaned on his stick, debating whether or not he should tell him.
"ok fine. but you can NOT spill the beans." he finally gave in.
"i won't, i won't. i swear."
Sid started playing around with the street hockey puck and began the story.
"i met Kay Brady at her parent's party on Friday night. I was at her house last night, and i snuck out cause i know your family and hers don't really get along." Sid turned to Austin and waited for his response.
"oohh.. I see... so you like her?"
"Sorta.. yeah.."
"it's cool. I like them. Our parents just don't get along." Austin replied. Sid looked at the ground and kicked a small rock around.
"yeah i figured. i feel bad sneaking around and stuff but i really like her, but i don't wanna cause problems."
"dude, it's fine. She's hot." The tension let up, and Sid cracked a smile, then playfully whacked Austin in the foot with his stick. "i'm just sayin'!" Austin exclaimed.
"yeah, yeah. sure." Sid laughed. The two played hockey for another hour until they called it quits. It was 4:00, and Sid decided to go inside to call his mom and take a nap. He didn't tell his mom about Kay- she wasn't very good at keeping things on the down low. besides, sid thought, We might not even go anywhere with this thing. It's only one date.
However, inside, he really wanted it to work out.

Sid napped until 5:30. When he woke up, he decided to go downstairs and help Nathalie get things ready for dinner. He buzzed around the kitchen setting the table, and Nat could tell something was up, but didn't bother to ask.
"Hey Nat, do you think i could borrow the car? I'm going to meet some friends tonight." Sid asked while he set the glasses on the table. Nathalie smiled and happily obliged.
"Sure, just don't be out too late with it."
"thanks, i won't" Sid smiled.
Everyone sat down to eat at six, and everyone seemed happy. Austin talked about how he beat Sid in street hockey, and Sid jokingly told everyone he didn't try. After they were done eating, Sid helped clear off the table. He checked the clock; 7:09. He went to his room to get ready. As he opened his closet, he was overwhelmed. He knew he didn't really have any fashion sense at all. He decided to keep it simple; some cacky shorts and a navy blue collared shirt. When he was finished putting some gel in his hair, he put some cologne on, grabbed his wallet off of his nightstand, and made his way to the garage. Sliding into the Mercedes, he got a little nervous. Little did he know, Kay was kind of nervous too.
Back at Kay's house, Kay was standing in the mirror with her jean capris, a baby doll shirt, and gladiator sandals on, making sure she looked ok. She bolted down the stairs, grabbing the keys off the end table by the door on her way out, and jumped into her car. She drove to the Starbucks, and parked on the side of the street. When she walked in, Sid was already sitting on one of the couches. She walked over to him.
"hey you!" she smiled. Sid's head shot up and he smiled back.
"hey how are you?"
"pretty good."
Kay sat down and looked around. The place wasn't really crowded which was nice. The two sat on the couch talking and learning about each other's lives. Not once did the fact that they weren't supposed to be together cross their minds, and they talked like normal people for once. As the conversation died down, Sid boldly asked Kay a question.
"do you wanna take a walk?"
"yeah, that'd be nice" Kay smiled. They got up off the couch and Sid walked over to the door, holding it open for her. They were walking along the sidewalk in the summer night for about five minutes when Sid reached for Kay's hand. Kay took it and looked at him, but he just kept looking ahead. Both continued to tell each other about their lives, but Sid did most of the talking. Kay was just strolling along enjoying his voice.
".. i was never really home a lot. I went to this boarding school in Minnesota to play hockey when i was 16, and then i played juniors in Rimouski. Sometimes i miss my family but i've kinda gotten used to it."
Kay nodded, "You seem close to your family still, though. That's good."
"yeah they're always there for me and they help me with everything. they're great." Sid said. "we better turn around before we get lost or something" he laughed
"oh.. yeah probably" Kay said smiling, even though she was really thinking that she'd love to get lost with him. She chuckled to herself, and the two of them headed back to their cars. As they were getting closer to their destination, Sid brought up another topic of conversation.
"you know, it's really hard to find a girl i actually like, i was losing hope." he chuckled.
"you could have any girl you want!" Kay said, almost suprised.
"that's what you think" Sid replied sarcastically, he knew it was true.
The two approached Kay's car and Kay turned to Sidney. The tone got a little more serious.
"seriously though, Kay. I hope this won't be the last time i see you." Sid looked into her eyes.
"me too, sid." She was going to say something else, until someone caught her eye. It was Jacob. He was in the window of the coffee shop staring at them with his mouth wide open. Kay gasped and stepped behind Sid, still holding onto his hand.
"whats wrong?" Sid asked
"I'll tell you later.. uhmm.. just call me later ok? i have to go, i'm really sorry. just call me." she slipped her hand out of his, and jumped in her car. Sid was still standing outside the car with a "what the hell" look on his face. Kay made a "im really, really sorry. i'll tell you later" face and drove back to their neighborhood.
