twenty-two

That night of Sid's birthday was pretty much the only exciting thing that happened from then til August 17 when Kay started moving into her dorm. Sid was always gone because of training camp, and most of the time he wouldn't get back til late and Kay was too tired to do anything. Not to mention, training camp worked Sid hard and he was always wiped out.

Friday, August 18, 2005.
Sid had off yesterday and they had begun moving Kay into her dorm. Today, they had to finish. Her roommate Heidi was already moved in, but she hadn't met her yet because she wasn't there yesterday.
It was around 3:00 in the afternoon and Sid and Kay were packing the last of the things into the back of the car. Sid emerged from the house and shoved the folded bed sheets into the trunk. He shut it.
"is that it?" he asked.
"yeah" Kay answered, getting into the drivers seat.
They drove the thirty minutes to the campus and parked at the dorms. Kay carried the big laundry basket filled with bed sheets, pillows, a little tv, a dvd player, a rug, all of her toiletries (which was alot), food/drinks, pictures to put on her wall, and laundry stuff. She had brought all the big stuff (like her mattress and desk) and clothes yesterday.
Sidney was carrying a mini fridge.. which was decently sized. They had to walk up three big flights of steps and he looked like he was going to pass out.
"are you ok sid" Kay practically yelled down the stairs as they walked up.
"i'm fine" he grunted.
Kay rolled her eyes. She opened the door to her dorm room and set her basket down on her side (the right side) of the room. Her roommate wasn't there again. She immediately took out the light blue shaggy throw rug and placed it at the small entrance. Sid arrived soon after her and set the mini fridge down with a thud.
"where do you want this?" he asked with a deep breathe. He was a little irritable.
"how about in this corner" Kay pointed to the left hand corner closest to the door. He picked up the thing again and set it down in the corner. "can you help me put these bed sheets on, then we'll be done." She grabbed the navy blue sheets and spread them out over the small twin sized bed. Sid grabbed the corners and stretched them out over the bed. He pulled the sheets up and Kay smoothed them out. She threw the pillows onto the freshly made bed, then threw herself onto it. Sid sat down beside her.
"done" Kay sighed. "I can put all my pictures up on my wall tonight, i'll just set up the tv later, and i'll leave my clothes in the basket for now considering there's only one dresser."
All that was in the room was two beds, a crappy dresser, and a desk on the other side of Kay's bed that she had brought yesterday. There was a couple shelves mounted on the wall above the beds, and a window on Kay's side.
Sid nodded. "sounds good. are you hungry? cause i'm starving."
"well lets go get something" she said, getting up off the bed. They went back down to the car and drove to a nearby sandwich shop. Nothing fancy considering they were both in gym shorts. They both ordered Rubens. A few people recognized Sid and stopped to say hi, which didn't really bother him, but he was tired and unexciting. Kay just stood by and smiled like always. She grabbed their orders when they were ready. The two ducked out of the place, back to the car and back to the dorm, back up the three flights of stairs, back into the cramped room with her unknown roommates Philadelphia Eagles posters. Yeah, she was from Philly. That would go over well.
Sid and Kay sat on Kay's bed and ate in the peace and quiet. It wasn't weird, they were just worn out. When they finished, Kay noticed the corner of the carpet she had put down was curled up against the bed. It had to go under it.
"Can you lift up the bed, i wanna put the corner of this carpet under it." she said, getting up off the bed. Sid slowly got up and tried lifting it with one arm. "just lift it up, sid" Kay said quickly with obvious annoyance added.
"i'm trying, kay" he said with the same annoyed tone. He lifted it with two hands this time.
"Thank you" she replied sternly. "i didn't realize it was such a chore"
"well gee, i'm sorry i'm not a ray of fucking sunshine today"
"i never said you had to be" Kay began fiddling through her laundry basket full of miscellaneous items.
"i'm tired, i'm sore, i just want to relax" he rubbed his forehead and face.
"then why are you helping me, why didn't you stay home like you have been doing since August 4!" Kay erupted, throwing her hands into the air.
"I have not stayed home since August fourth, i've hung out with you every chance i've gotten." Sid raised his voice back at her.
"yep" she gave up, she wasn't in the mood to argue. Her hands were resting on her hips as she took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, sh looked around the room then back at Sid, and bit her lip. He just looked at her.
Out of nowhere, Sid jumped up and grabbed her waste, pushing her up against the door. He bit her lip and Kay deepened the kiss. She ran her fingers through his dark, thick hair. They moved from the door to against the wall without parting, and were going at it until they heard the door fly open.
"jesus christ" Sid jumped and cursed under his breath when he saw what looked to be Kay's roommate Heidi standing in the door way.
"hey, don't let me stop you, by all means." Heidi threw two shopping bags on her bed and began going through them. Kay and Sid just stood there for a few moments.
"i'm Kay" Kay introduced herself and walked over to her. She extended her hand.
"Heidi" her roommate flashed a smile at her and shook her hand.
"and this is my boyfriend, Sidney... Sid" Kay looked back at Sid still standing in the corner.
"yes i know who he is" Heidi chuckled and rolled her eyes.
alright then, Kay thought. She looked back at Sid and widened her eyes as if to say "what the hell. get over here". He just shrugged and emerged from the corner.
"hi" he cleared his throat. "nice to meet you" he extended his hand as well. Boy was this awkward. Heidi looked back up from her bag once again.
"nice to meet you too." she said back and shook his hand.
"Well, better get going. I'll see you later, Heidi. It was nice to finally meet you." Kay interrupted. Heidi nodded and smiled.
She started out the door and walked briskly down the stairs. Sid was right behind her trying to keep up. "I really don't think that could have gotten anymore awkward."
"yeah it was a little uncomfortable" Sid replied. Kay unlocked the car from afar, making the tail lights light up.
"honestly, was the whole 'yes of COURSE i know who he is' thing necessary? really?" She approached the car. Sid didn't say anything more. They both got in and Kay started it.
"it'll be ok" Sid assured.

They drove back to their neighborhood and Kay pulled into the Lemieux's driveway. She turned to Sid.
"thanks for helping me" she faintly smiled and gave him a peck on the lips.
"you know, the campus is only thirty minutes away, you can come home anytime" he said quietly.
"or you can come visit me all the time in my dorm room... where we're alone... not counting Heidi" she laughed at the last part and kissed him once again. "but seriously, i'm staying in a dorm to be on my own for once i don't wanna be coming home all the time. so you're just going to have to come over all the time." she smirked.
"ok, i can do that" Sid leaned in for one last kiss that was a little longer than the one before. "call me" he said, getting out of the car.
"i will." Kay smiled and he shut the door.
She backed out of the driveway and sighed. "...i might as well drop in on the parentals for one last 'so-long' while i'm in the neighborhood." she said to herself.

twenty-one.

It was getting closer and closer to Sid's birthday, and Kay had a pretty good idea of what she wanted to do. She had emailed his mom and gotten tons of pictures from when he was younger. She also had some on her camera of him and her together. She began making a photo album type thing.
As for the date, he had informed her that he would be at training camp all day, but would be available in the evening. After thinking long and hard about what to do, she decided to cook a cake for him... and the rest is a surprise, sorry.

(tuesday) August 7, 2005.
Around noon, Kay began finishing up with her gift. She slipped all the pictures into the album, admiring all of them one by one. There were ones from when he was a baby all the way up until now. At the end of it, Kay printed out one of her favorite quotes and stuck it in, along with a personal letter from her.
Trina had emailed Kay a long letter to Sid about how she missed having her son around, and she couldn't believe he was finally 18. It almost made Kay cry. She tucked that away at the end of the album also.
When she was done, she shut it and ran her fingers delicately over the cover. It was decently sized and all black with a small red heart cut out in the middle of it. She placed it in the gift bag when she was done admiring it, and stuffed the tissue paper in. Next, she had to talk to her mom about tonight.
"mom?" she called from her room.
"yes honey" she responded, walking into the room with a clothes basket resting on her hip.
"as you probably know, tonight's Sid's eighteenth birthday.." Kay began. Her mom nodded. "i wanted to have him over but i was hoping you guys could maybe go someplace..." She hoped her mom wouldn't take what she just said the wrong way.
"if that's what you want" Her mom smiled, understanding where she was coming from, thank god. "just don't do anything stupid Kaylen" she warned in a stern tone as she walked out the door.
"i won't. thanks mom." Kay called with a smile.
Now that that was out of the way, she could sit back and relax for a couple hours.

When the rest of Kay's family was getting ready to leave for dinner with their friends, her mom warned her once more about not doing anything "stupid". Her dad told her not to burn the house down like he always says before he leaves her alone. Kay promised it would be fine, and she practically pushed them out the door and shut it as fast as possible. She ran into the kitchen and checked the clock that read 5:34. Sid would be there at 7:30 since he was eating dinner with the Lemieuxs.
"two hours" Kay said to herself as she scanned the pantry for cake mix. "no cake mix. that's just wonderful."
She ran over to the front door and quickly slipped on her flip flops, then sprinted out the door to her car. She drove like a crazy woman to the grocery store and probably looked like a crazy woman too. She had a tank top on with shorts and her hair was in a messy bun that was quickly coming undone. She had no make up on and bags under her eyes showing her lack of sleep. That wasn't her concern at the moment though. She hopped out of the car with her purse and keys, and she jogged into the store. Once inside, she walked swiftly to the baking section and examined the cake mixes.
"chocolate... vanilla.. white..." she said to herself with her hand on her chin in deep thought. "how about vanilla with chocolate icing. classic." she grabbed the vanilla cake mix and chocolate icing and ran to the check out area, quickly paying the cashier and running back out of the store.
When she arrived back home it was 6:00. She mixed the cake, poured it into a pan, and popped it in the oven. She went upstairs to pick out her outfit.
She ended up picking out a dress. She just felt comfortable in dresses for some reason. This dress was gray and she paired it with little white button up sweater. She didn't wear any shoes considering she was in her own house. When she was finished getting dressed, she let her hair down from her bun and it was still a little wet from her shower after her run this morning. She sprayed it with some curling stuff and it became wavy.
After she checked herself in the mirror once again, she went back down to the cake and took it out. It was a little before 7:00 now, and she set the delicious smelling dessert on the counter to cool off. She iced it when it was done cooling, and she set Sid's present on the counter.
"what to do next..." she wandered. "how could i forget." she walked over to the couch and grabbed a tan blanket off of it, then went out to the patio and spread it out. She had found out that tonight was going to be a good night for shooting stars, so she figured they could sit outside. She set the cake along with his present on the blanket and sat down on it. Now, finally, she could relax.

"hello?" Sid poked his head out the door with a smile. Kay turned around to see him.
"Sid!" she ran over to him and gave him a big hug. "happy birthday you're officially an adult" she said as she kissed him.
"thanks... but i feel the same" Sid laughed.
"you won't for long. come on i made cake." Kay took his hand and led him to the blanket. They sat down indian style across from each other with two forks.
"i'm not supposed to be eating this" Sid smirked, but dug in anyway.
"oh who cares. i busted my ass to make this. you will eat it and you will like it."
"ok ok... so what happened?" he asked with a chuckle, knowing there was a story behind that statement.
"well i didn't really check to see if we had cake mix, and when i went to make the cake we didn't have any. So i went to the store looking like i just rolled out of bed and i sprinted through the store like a crazy person. I'm pretty sure the cashier thought i was on drugs." she explained the whole thing, waving her fork around in the air as she told the story. Sid's smile grew.
"well it's really good"
"Good" Kay replied, satisfied.
They kept eating, but there was still some left that they couldn't finish. They set their forks down and groaned.
"i'm never eating cake again" Kay joked. Of course it wasn't true.
"me either" Sid laughed. Kay pushed the pan out of the way and grabbed his present.
"here, this is for you" she said, handing the bag to him. He took the tissue paper out of the top and pulled out the album.
"you didn't have to do this" he said with a grin.
"yes i did. i wanted to." Kay argued with an eager smile spread across her face.
Sid opened the album and flipped through it carefully. Kay looked with him and they talked about all the old stories behind the pictures. She enjoyed hearing about his family and friends back home.
When they got to the end, Sid read Kay's quote aloud.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."
He cleared his throat and looked at it for a moment.
"i like this quote" he nodded.
"me too" Kay quietly replied, resting her head on his shoulder. "there's more" she whispered.
He turned the page to see two letters; one from Kay and one from his mom.
"you can read your moms later if you want" Kay told him. He agreed and picked up the one that Kay wrote.
Sid-
Congratulations, you're old :) not really, but you get it.
I can't believe we've only known each other for three months. You've become my best friend and my boyfriend. I love spending everyday with you. You make me happier when i'm sad, and you always know what to say to make me laugh; you get me.
I hope your rookie season is a success. I hope i can be there with you along the way. I get so excited about finally seeing you out there living your dream that you've told me so much about.
You know i'll always be here for you no matter where you go or what happens to us in the future.
You will always have a friend in me. I promise.
Yours always,
Kay

Sid looked up from the letter.
"you're the best" he whispered and pulled her closer, kissing her on the forehead.
"no you are" Kay smiled.
They sat together on the blanket and watched as the sky got darker. Night fell upon them. The crickets chirped in the background as they lay next to each other under the stars.
"look" Sid whispered, tapping Kay on the shoulder and pointing to the shooting star.
"oh my gosh! i've never actually seen one before" Kay laughed quietly.
"make a wish" he told her
"ok.. we'll do it at the same time. ready go." She said. They shut their eyes and made their wishes.
"did you do it?" he asked curiously.
"yeah, even though it was pointless, considering i already have everything i want sitting right here" she looked over at Sid and smiled that goofy smile of hers.
"you're a hopeless romantic, you know that?" he laughed and kissed her before she could respond.

twenty.

When seven rolled around, Kay was sitting in the living room with jean shorts on and a white abercrombie and fitch tank top. Sid knocked on the door at seven and she answered. He was wearing shorts, tennis shoes, and a hockey night in canada tee shirt.
"the lemieuxs arn't home so i thought we could drive your car" he stated.
"yeah sure" Kay answered him plainly. They walked out to the driveway and Kay got in the passenger seat. She handed Sid the keys and he climbed into the drivers seat.
The drive to wherever they were going was silent, but it wasn't an awkward silence. They just didn't have anything to say to each other, not yet anyway. Kay just looked out the window; it was quite a nice night. The storm had passed and there were rain drops still lingering on the leaves of the trees, but the sky was absolutely beautiful.
They drove for a while north until they came to a lake. It was quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Kay got out of the car with Sid and they walked down to the water, out onto a board walk type thing. Kay leaned on the railing to watch the sun go down while Sid stood behind her watching.
"what are you thinking about?" Kay asked quietly without turning around to look at him.
"you" he replied.
"thats new" she chuckled. Sid smiled and stood there with his hands in his pockets like he always does when hes nervous.
"do you forgive me for last night?"
"i'm getting there" Kay said, letting out a deep breath. Sid walked closer to her and wrapped his arm around her waist.
" how am i doing so far?" he whispered in her ear, making her spine tingle.
"you're doing ok." Kay bit her lip.
He innocently kissed her neck and rested his head on her shoulder, watching sun sink lower.
A few moments of silence went by.
"i think we're good together." Kay blurted out. Sid furrowed his eyebrows and chuckled.
"what?"
"..we're good together." she repeated, craning her neck to look at him behind her.
"we are" Sid nodded in agreement. She turned around in his arms and leaned back on the railing. Their lips brushed and her heart pounded.
"you get me every time" she whispered.
"i know" he whispered back and slowly moved his lips closer. He tilted his head as he kissed her and rested his hands on the railing behind her.

They stayed there sitting on the dock for a half hour more, barely talking. They were just enjoying each others company. When it was time to go, Sid spoke up.
"lets go" he got up and held his hand out for Kay. He helped her out and they walked to the car together.
"you know, nobody is home at my house. we should go there." she said as she slid into the passenger seat and Sid turned her car on.
"yeah we can do that" he responded with his eyes focused on the road. He had one hand gripping the bottom of the steering wheel. Kay turned on some music to pass the time.
They pulled into Kay's driveway and went to the front door. Kay unlocked it.
"want anything to drink?" she asked.
"i'm good" Sid answered. She nodded and led Sid upstairs to her room. They sat down on her bed.
"your birthday is in two weeks" Kay smiled, trying to make conversation.
"finally" he grinned.
"what do you want?" she asked. She was still thinking about what to get him/where to take him.
"i don't know i havn't really thought about it. we start training camp on the fourth so i might be busy" the smile on his face faded and so did Kay's.
"aww and i had a really good surprise" She teased, and fell back on the bed.
"and what would this surprise be?" Sid asked, turning around to her.
"it wouldn't be a surprise if i told you, Sid," she replied. Sid crawled closer to her.
"well maybe you should just give it to me now.." He leaned over her. His necklace was hanging down and Kay played with it.
"i don't know about that" she smirked.
"i think you should" he said, lowering himself onto her.
He was trying to be all romantic and smooth. He ran his hands over her torso, so she stretched her arms over her head. However, on the way up she nailed him in the nose. Her mouth hung open, not knowing what to say.
"oh my god! Sid!" she sat up. His nose was bleeding so she got up and ran to the bathroom, coming back out with a box of kleenex.
"thanks" Sid said as he sat up and held the tissue to his face.
"i'm sorry." she apologized "i ruined the moment."
"it's ok" Sid chuckled "we should wait.. obviously."
"obviously" Kay smiled.

nineteen.

After he left, Kay just sat there staring at the ceiling thinking to herself. She found herself saying a prayer since that's just what she does.
"so i havn't done this in a while." she started. "i'm sorry about that. but i'm completely lost. sometimes i feel so small. everything's happening so fast and it's like i can't slow it down. i love Sid with all my heart, don't let him get sucked into all the fame and fortune, please. i can't lose him."
It was short and sweet, just right. She changed out of her jeans and white tee into a tee shirt and underwear, and she got under the covers.

Meanwhile, Sid was back at the Lemieux's sitting in his room on his bed, throwing a stress ball against the wall. He couldn't believe what he had done. He just got tied up at the rink and instead of telling everyone he had to go, he stayed. He had been thinking about Kay the whole time and thought she would understand, she wouldn't be mad, because he didn't think she was like that. But it hurt her feelings, obviously. Over and over he threw the ball against the wall thinking about her. He finally thought of something to do and picked up his cell phone.
"Hi it's Sid" he began. "i'm not going to be able to make it to any meetings or anything tomorrow" he informed. "thanks. i apologize, there's just some things i have to take care of. ...yep.... later." he hung up and let out a deep breath. He sat there spinning his cell phone around between his fingers just staring at it, contemplating texting or calling Kay. It was late, though, and he decided against it. He lay back on his bed and fell asleep fully clothed.

July 24, 2009
Sid woke up with a groan and rubbed his face. He looked down and noticed he was still in his clothes. On top of that, it was storming pretty badly outside.
"i'm such an ass" he mumbled, rolling out of bed. It was 9:00, and he wandered downstairs, but there was no one there. A note was stuck on the fridge-

we all went out for the day
feel free to make yourself anything you want to eat
-Nat

Sid didn't bother eating, he just went back upstairs to his room and got a shower.

Across the street, Kay had woken up at the same time, feeling the same way; like a piece of crap. She sat up in bed and just stayed there for a while before getting into the shower. When she got out, she put some sweats on and went downstairs. Nobody was home in her house either. She figured they went to one of Leland's things, and she wandered into the laundry room to fold clothes in an attempt to help her mom out a little. She put the we clothes in the dryer and started it, then began to fold the dry ones, placing them into a basket. She kept thinking about Sid, and was day dreaming when the drier suddenly stopped and everything went dark. As if things could get any worse.
"oh COME ON" she yelled. Her voice echoed through the house, and she walked out into the foyer. She sat down on the steps and debated what to do.
"I wander if the Lemieuxs have power? ... No you're not doing that" she thought aloud. "Yes you are..." She got up, slipped her tennis shoes on, and walked out the door in her sweat pants tee shirt. She ran over to the Lemieuxs knowing it wasn't a good idea, and was practically drenched when she arrived at the door. She rang the doorbell. About a minute later the door opened- she noticed they still had power. She then noticed who was standing there in just his boxers with a towel around his neck. It was an awkward silence at first.
"hi... uhm, are the Lemieuxs here?" she asked, trying not to let her eyes stray.
"uh no they're out.. somewhere.." Sid answered.
"oh"
"can i help?" He asked timidly.
"well nobody's home and our power went out. I think it's something with a fuse or something. i don't know." she replied, trying to make it seem like she was fine.
"well i think i can try to fix it.. if you want me to, i mean." Sid rubbed the back of his neck and hoped she would say yes.
"sure" she began to leave, then stopped. "but put a shirt on... and pants. pants would be appropriate." she turned around and began to walk back in the rain with a sly smile on her face. Sid just shut the door and laughed. He ran upstairs to get dressed.

About 15 minutes later, Sid arrived in red gym shorts along with a gray sweat shirt and Kay let him in. His hair didn't have any of the gel in it (kay hated the gel) and he smelled like heaven, but she held herself back.
"where's your electrical box?" he asked.
"in the basement."
He followed her down to the basement with a flashlight to where the box was. He opened it up and began fiddling with all the wires/switches.
How did i get myself into this, Kay thought. It was so awkward and they weren't saying anything until Kay decided to speak up.
"do you always answer the door like that?" she questioned.
"all the time" Sid said sarcastically. Kay just nodded and couldn't fight the smile that crept it's way across her face. "i took the day off today" he said, briefly glancing at her standing next to him with her arms crossed over her chest.
She thought for a moment then asked, "why?"
"because i wanted to make up for what i did last night" Sid answered plainly.
"i don't know.." she hesitated.
"please" Sid pleaded. He flipped a switch and everything was lit up again. He turned to her and wiped his hands on his sweat shirt. "i want to make it right"
Kay bit her lip and looked around. She was at a loss for words. She didn't want to give up that easy; she was stubborn, but then again, so was he. "fine" she muttered, and began back up the steps as Sid followed. They went to the front door.
"i'll pick you up at seven tonight." He informed.
"I won't hold my breath" Kay replied. Sid just hung his head and let himself out the door. She watched him walk away and sighed. "look on the bright side, the storm is over." she said to herself.

HAHAH

eighteen.

So Sidney and Kay hung out for the next two days, like always. They were beginning to not go out in public as much because people recognized Sid. Kay was fine with it, she knew it would have happened sooner or later. As long as she was with him, though, she didn't care. They didn't have to go out to places.

July 22, 2009
On Sunday, Sid and Kay talked about what was going to happen the next day.
"so, tomorrow we're going to do something special." Sid grinned, interlacing his fingers with Kay's as they sat by the Lemieux's pool.
"like what?" Kay smirked
"something you'll enjoy doing because it's one of your favorite things to do"
"make fun of you?" she questioned.
"no!" Sid laughed.
"i really don't know what's more fun than that, Sid." she replied with a straight face.
"that's it" Sid picked her up "you're going in"
"Put me down!" Kay laughed.
"sorry" He grinned and threw her in the pool. She came up to the surface with a sly look on her face.
"jerk" she joked.
"at least i apologized" Sid responded. Kay swam over to where he was standing on the edge of the pool.
"oh really? Well, i'm sorry that i have to do this." She smiled, making Sid confused, and pulled him by the ankles into the pool with her.
"that wasn't fair!" he yelled, "but i'll forgive you i guess"
"aww thank you so much." Kay chuckled, giving him a kiss.

(monday) July 23, 2005.
Kay woke up to a white rose on her nightstand with a note tied to it, figuring it was from Sid and Leland "delivered" it. For some reason, he liked getting one single flower.

Today is finally one month even though it seems soo much longer. I want to take you out somewhere.. i'm pretty sure you'll love my idea :)
i have to do some things, but i'll pick you up at 7.
- Sid
PS: wear jeans.

Kay smiled as she read it. She hopped out of bed and put the flower in a vase.
She went downstairs and gave her mom a kiss on the cheek, making her smile. She buzzed through the kitchen and out the door to go running. (She runs monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and friday.)
"whats gotten into her" her mom wandered with a chuckle.

The hours passed slowly until it was 6:00. Kay ate dinner then went upstairs to get ready. She got showered, picked out dark wash jeans, and plain white tee that showed her mid drift just a little tiny bit. Her hair was wavy, and she had a small amount of eye make up on, along with the small diamond cross she always wore. She figured she wouldn't be needing her cell tonight; it was just her and Sid. She left it on her night stand.
When she was finished prepping, she decided to go sit out on the porch. It was only 6:50, and she knew Sid would be right on time at 7, but she waited anyway.
Ten minutes went by and Kay was getting anxious. She was still excited to see him. Five more minutes went by.
7:05 "i wonder where he is" she thought aloud. She sat there tapping her fingers on the arm rest of the chair on the porch.
7:10 Five more minutes. Still no sid. "probably just running a little late.." she thought.
7:15 Five more. nope. "this is wierd... he's never late. he hates being late." but still she sat there waiting. "he'll show up." she promised herself.
7:25 She crossed her legs and nervously shook her foot; it was a habit.
7:30 "ok Sid this isn't funny anymore" she whispered to no one in particular.
7:40 Her eyes started to water. A single tear rolled down her face and she wiped it away, forcing a smile, letting out a sigh, and getting up out of the chair. She walked into the house and slowly up the steps.
"Honey is everything ok? i thought you left" her mom yelled from the living room. Kay didn't bother answering. She just went into her room and shut the door behind her; she wasn't one to make a big deal about stuff, especially guys.
She looked at her phone sitting on the nightstand and picked it up. He didn't call or text anything. She shut the phone and shook her head. She fell back on her bed as a tear hit the pillow.
this isn't like him, what happened?. she thought, and drifted off to sleep

It was around 11 when Kay heard someone open her door and shut it behind them. They stood in the dark door way and Kay knew it was Sid. She was laying on her side and her back was to him, but she still knew it was him. Her eyes opened but she didn't move or look at him. She didn't want him to see her this way, and she didn't want to make a big deal. She knew he didn't think it had this much of an impact on her.
"hey" Sid whispered, turning on a lamp. Kay sat up but still had her back to him. She wiped off her cheeks in case there was any makeup on them.
"oh hey" She said sounding all stuffed up. Sid paused.
"You ok?" he asked.
"yeah, yeah, i'm fine" She replied. He walked over to her and sat down next to her, looking at her. She looked up at him and let out a small laugh and a sniffle thinking about how ridiculous she was being/looking.
"Kay, don't cry. i'm sorry" was all Sid could say.
"it's ok, i understand, really, i do"
"i didn't know this meant so much to you" He replied, not thinking.
"Sid, that's not the point! So what, it was one stupid date. But you didn't show up- you didn't even call me or send a text- nothing!" She had a painful expression and Sid just played with his thumbs. "you have priorities, i understand, but don't you think i deserved a call let alone a text message? You're by best friend and my boyfriend. I didn't think you would stand me up."
He nodded.
"i hate seeing you like this. i screwed up." he managed. His voice cracked a little. "i don't want to make you upset. I should have called, i should have showed up."
"yeah" was all Kay said. "it's late. you should go."
Sid listened and headed for the doorway, closing it on his way out.
Kay lay back and finally realized she was dating Sidney Crosby, not just the guy next door.

seventeen.

Just as Sid had told her on Sunday morning, he was busy the rest of the week. It sucked and Kay was bored, but she caught up with her friends which was something she had been meaning to do. On Monday, Cassie slept over and on Tuesday they went over to Dan's house. Dan was one of Kay's good friends ever since freshman year. He always had a girlfriend and it upset Kay, but she realized they were just friends and that was all they would ever be. He got accepted to Penn State, the college he always wanted to go to. Kay was happy for him.
On Wednesday, Kay woke up and went running. She had finally convinced herself to start running again. She really did miss it.
Thursday, she woke up and ran again and saw Sid in the driveway getting ready to leave. She didn't stop, though. They talked every night on the phone so it's not like they had any new stuff to talk about. Sid just waved and she stuck her tongue out at him, making him smile. When she got back, her and Leland began the dreaded mulching that needed to be done; they didn't pay to have their lawn maintained because Kay's dad thought it was a total waste of money.
At dinner later that day, she got some news she wasn't too happy about.
"we invited Jacob and his family over for a visit tomorrow... for dinner." Kay's dad announced from the other end of the table. Kay just sat there looking at him.
"i'm not talking to him." she stated.
"you'll welcome them into our house properly, Kaylen." Her dad told her. Kay just shook her head and let out a sigh.
"why do you have to keep bringing him into the picture"
"we all know this little fling of yours isn't going to last. Jacob is going to make something of himself, and Sid, well, he's a hockey player." He responded.
"He's a great guy" she argued.
"i'm sure. But he's not for you, Kay."
What does he know, she thought to herself.

July 20, 2005
The mulching carried over to Friday (after she ran of course) and she was sitting in the planter pulling out every weed she came across when Sid came strolling into the driveway. It was around two in the afternoon. Her back was to him and she was cursing her parents for making her do this on a Friday.
"it's not like i really had anything better to do though, considering Sid can't do anything. And even if i didn't have him i still wouldn't be doing anything, because i, in fact, would still have no life." she mumbled to herself. She wasn't really making any sense and Sid stood behind her trying not to laugh. "this is boring as hell. somebody kill me." Sid cleared his throat making her jump and turn around. She laughed when she saw him and slapped him on the leg. "you scared me."
"sorry" Sid laughed, "guess what.."
"what"
"you do have a life" he smirked.
"I just hate yard work." Kay chuckled.
"really? i couldn't tell" Sid replied sarcastically and cracked a smile. He sat down next to her and helped her pull some of the straggling weeds that were left. "you wanna do something tonight?"
"um well, tonight's not a good night. rain check?" Kay tried to look like she was happy and nothing was wrong.
"yeah, sure. whatever works for you." Sid said, the confusion showing in his expression. Kay just nodded. It was awkwardly silent and Sid decided to end thier little visit. "i better get back to the Lemieux's."
"yeah." They both stood up and Sid gave Kay a kiss before leaving. It broke Kay's heart that she didn't tell him what was going on tonight, she just knew he wouldn't be happy about Jacob the creeper coming over. It was better not to tell him, and plus, it's not like she invited him herself.

Later that night, Jacob and his family arrived. Kay was still in her room. She was wearing a green dress since she had to look "nice" for everyone.
"Kay, come on." Leland poked his head in to tell her they were here.
"just a minute" she replied, then got up and followed her little brother down the stairs. She sat in the family room with everyone else and just listened to everyone talk. She also watched Jacob eye her up from across the room and wanted to vomit.
Dinner was finally finished and her mom put it out on the kitchen counter for everyone to help themselves. The parents sat outside on patio, Leland ran off somewhere, and Jacob loomed over Kay like a shadow in the kitchen.
"you haven't said much" Jacob said with a stuck up tone.
"so" Kay replied while being blocked into a corner by him.
"what's wrong" He asked.
like it's any of your business, She thought. "you." she said, managing to muster up the courage to tell him what she really thought of him. A smirk came across Jacob's face, then Kay heard a knock on the door. She looked through the glass to see Sid. "you've gotta be kidding me" she whispered to herself. She pushed Jacob out of the way and swiftly walked to the door, her heels making the clacking sound across the hardwood.
"hi" Sidney greeted with a yellow rose in hand.
"hi. uh.. i told you i couldn't see you tonight" Kay said nervously.
"i know, i'm sorry. i just-" Sid stopped when he saw Jacob his hand around Kay's waist like the little snake he was and Kay's eyes widened.
"get off me" she demanded.
"woahh ok there. feisty." Jacob said, backing away. He slipped back into the kitchen.
"what's going on." Sid asked when no one was around.
"my dad felt the need to invite Jacob and his family over for dinner." Kay explained, stepping out onto the porch with him and closing the door.
"i see" was all he said back. There was few moments of silence. "this is for you" he finally said, handing the rose to her.
"why thank you" she smiled as she admired it.
"i don't understand why your dad keeps trying to force him on you" Sid shoved his hands in his pockets and looked around.
"i don't understand either. i don't know how he can think Jacob is a good person. he's a freak. he cornered me in the kitchen and i honestly wanted to throw up." Kay said, getting flustered.
Sid cracked a smile "you should have" he shrugged. Kay laughed a little.
"ew sid, just ew"
"yeah, that was gross. sorry." Sid laughed. It was quiet.
"you wanna get out of here?" he asked with a mischievous look on his face. Kay thought about it for a moment.
"yup" she grinned. She slipped her heels off and carried them. Sid took her hand and they ran to the Lemieux's, quietly slipping away from the gathering. They went through the garage and let themselves into the house. Nat and Mario were in the basement and the kids were outside swimming. They went right up to Sid's room.
"your parents are gonna be mad at you" Sid teased.
"i don't care." Kay replied carelessly, throwing her heels on the floor and flopping down on Sid's bed that was covered by a big white comforter.
"good. Now, what do you wanna do." Sid asked as he sat down next to her. Kay noticed he had a tv with a VCR sitting on on top of his dresser, and he had a couple of videos even though they were old.
"lets watch a movie" she pointed to the tv. It was about 8:30 and the sun was setting.
"ok" Sid agreed. He walked over to his collection of videos and named them all. "we've got toy story, lion king, oliver & company-" Kay burst out laughing. "my mom packed these ok give me a break" Sid smiled and chucked bambi at her, then continued. "miracle which we already saw 50 times so that's dumb, the mummy, blair witch projects, silence of the lambs.."
"ooh blair witch projects" Kay wriggled her eye brows.
"ok. but when i have to kick you out and you have to walk home in the dark don't complain" Sid chuckled.
"you wouldn't" she gasped.
"i'm kidding" he assured. He popped the tape in and it began. They lay on his bed.

Lets just say Kay didn't really deal with scary movies very well. She looked like she was gonna crap her pants at any moment and Sid tried his hardest not to laugh. He had seen it before so he was fine.
"i can't even tell what's going on i wish they would hold the camera still for two seconds" she complained nervously, holding onto Sid and practically breaking his hand. It was the last ten minutes of the movie.
"well, it's a camcorder" Sid tried to explain.
"the girl keeps screaming in the background. what the heck." Kay closed her eyes, refusing to watch it.
The person with the camera sees a guy standing in the corner, she falls over, and it ends.
"it's over now, you can look" Sid told her. He turned the light on his nightstand on, and she sat up with a sigh of relief. She looked at the clock; 10:05 pm.
"well, i texted my parents and told them where i was. They'll get over it."
"you better get home though" He didn't want her getting in trouble. He got up, grabbed her shoes, and stood there waiting for her.
"siidddneyy" she whined, trying to pull him back.
"oh come on, stop being a baby" he smiled. He practically dragged her out of the room, down the stairs, and out the door through the garage. She just stood there in the dark with her dress and bare feet, not moving. "lets go" Sid urged. She stuck her bottom lip out. "i'll give you a piggy back ride" he coaxed. She gave in and hopped on.
"we're never watching a scary movie again" he announced in a joking manner as he carried her down the driveway.
"you're such a party pooper" She joked and kissed him on the cheek, making his nose scrunch up. "you know, i would much rather watch that movie with you than be stuck at my house socializing with the scum of the earth."
"aw i'm glad you feel that way" Sid laughed.

sixteen.

"There are pictures of you on the Internet sleeping with the Cup.

(Laughing) We don't have to go there, but I do have this idea of playing street hockey with my friends - winning team gets the Stanley Cup. We always used to pretend the Cup was on the line in our street hockey games, so now it really can be."

Gotta love Sid just changing the subject like that. How does he get street hockey out of this statement? hahah

July 15, 2005

Sunday. A day of rest; except when Sidney Crosby is calling you at nine in the morning.
"hello?" Kay said, rubbing her eyes and straining to look at the alarm clock.
"hello Kay." Sid said in the creepiest voice.
"What the hell" Kay laughed
"i have plans" He mused.
"i'm tired" She whined into her cell phone.
"i'm sorry. but i'm not going to be able to do anything for the rest of the week and i really wanna hang out... and i missed your voice." Sidney stated, making Kay smile.
"I just saw you last night" she laughed "but i guess that's a good excuse for waking me up."
"It is. Can you come over later when i'm done working out and everything?" He asked
"i don't know. i'll have to see if i can fit you into my schedule." She joked. "Oh wait. yes. i think i can! but wait, i thought you had to go running."
"Don't worry about it. I'll be waiting. The Lemieux residence. 6:45 pm... and wear tennis shoes.. and comfortable clothes. k bye." Sid hung up right away and Kay just looked at the phone wandering what had gotten into him. She got out of bed, got a shower, and got ready for the day.

Kay arrived at the Lemieuxs at 6:45, just as Sid told her to, and the note on the door told her to come in. She heard Sid in the kitchen so she wandered through the foyer to find him leaning against the granite counter, drinking a protein shake. She walked over to him and gave him a kiss.
"hey" she smiled "Where's Nathalie and Mario? and what are we going to do?"
"They're visiting their friends or something, and we're going running" Sid said plainly as he gulped down the rest of the shake.
"Sid." Kay said with a hint of uncertainty and worry in her voice. "i haven't gone running since school let out"
"it's not like we're going to run a marathon. It's like two miles." Sid reasoned as he washed out the container his drink was in and put it in the sink. Kay thought about it then rolled her eyes and gave in as Sid grabbed her hand and began to drag her out of the house.
"Just go easy on me." Kay said half jokingly. Sid turned around with a smile.
"i'll try to." he replied. They quickly stretched in the driveway then began their run down the street. "see this isn't so bad" Sid pointed out.
"we just started" Kay said, her breathes beginning to get heavier as they made their way through Sewickley Heights. It was sort of hilly, which was something Kay wasn't used to. They continued running without speaking. They were concentrating and Sid was focused ahead, his posture perfect with his chest out and his head up. Kay, on the other hand was feeling it.
"Stand up straight, keep your chest out" Sid said, breathing heavily.
"pfft. i was a runner, Sid. I can do it." Kay laughed. Sid just smiled and shrugged, and Kay could see their houses up the hill. They were almost there. "You know, you should probably join a gym and run there or something cause people really enjoy staring at you." Kay stated. Sid just shook his head and laughed. "and normal people usually run in the morning," she added.
"i'm not normal." Sid responded, desperately trying to keep a straight face, but failed. He took off in a sprint up the hill to the house and ended up in the Lemieux's driveway. He began to stretch out when Kay came up behind him and jump on him, tackling him into the grass.
"Hello" Sid greeted as Kay lay on top of him
"i can't believe you made me go running when i'm in the worst shape of my life" Kay playfully scolded.
"you look in shape to me" Sid said, trying to be smart.
"hm. i really didn't feel like it." Kay said, sitting up and wiping her forehead on her arm. They sat in the grass cooling off, until she had an idea and her eyes lit up. "come on" she said, tugging on sid's arm. She ran down to the pool and took off her shoes/socks. She threw them on the lounge chair and proceeded to take off her shirt while Sid just stood there. "Are you coming in or what?" she asked, taking off her shorts and throwing them at Sid. She dove in. He just laughed and pulled off his tee shirt and shorts. He threw them behind him and jumped in after Kay, swimming over to her and picking her up.
"what has gotten into you?" he asked.
"the Bataan death run made me delirious" she joked.
"i'll have to take you on more death marches. I like it when you're delirious." Sid joked back with a smile. Kay pushed him away playfully.
"i refuse to do that ever again." She retorted, her arms folded across her chest.
"we'll see" Sid lunged after her and the two of them played around in the pool, flirting with one another, until they heard something. "shh shh" He quieted Kay down and they heard car doors shutting. "oh shit" They looked at each other, then got out of the pool at the speed of light. Kay ran to her clothes and Sid got her a towel. He wrapped her in it and frantically kissed her.
"where should i go?" Kay asked in a panic between kisses.
"just go hide behind a bush or something" Sid answered, also in between kisses. They kissed one more time until she ran up the hill to the front of the house. Sid searched for his clothes, but the pool light came on before he could get to them.
"Sidney?" Mario yelled from the deck.
"uh yeah, hi" Sid straightened up as he stood there in his dripping wet boxers.
"What's going on?" Mario asked with an intimidating voice.
"oh, you know, taking a swim." Sid explained nervously.
"In your underwear?" Mario stifled his laughter, knowing the kid was up to something.
"yep" He chuckled nervously.
"uh huh. Well, it's a little cold down there i assume?" Mario asked, confusing Sid. He looked down at his boxers and felt his face become hot. He placed his hands over his crotch and tried to think of a catchy comeback, but Mario spoke up. "Put some clothes on" he laughed as he walked back into the house.
"fuck my life" Sid muttered under his breath as he scattered to find his clothes. He picked up his shoes, shirt, and shorts, then made his way up to where Kay disappeared.
"Sid!" Kay whispered from behind the hedges that lined the house. Sid jumped.
"jesus" he said, making his way over to her and slipping his shorts back on. Kay was already in her clothes, her hair dripping wet and the little make she had on running down her cheek. She handed him her towel and he dried his hair and some of his body before putting his shirt back on. "well, Mario probably thinks i'm on crack." He said plainly.
"I heard." Kay said, holding back her laughter. "come over" she said.
"ok" sid agreed. He took her hand and they walked across the street to Kay's house. They went through the garage and Kay found her dad in the office and her mom watching tv in the family room, so her and Sid quietly made their way up the stairs into her room. She carefully shut the door and locked it behind her, then jumped on Sid, pulling him onto the bed and giving him a big kiss. She then opened the big window above her bed and swung her legs out. She sat on the edge, and patted the spot next to her.
"what if i fall out the window?" Sid asked jokingly.
"I'll catch you" Kay assured, making both of them laugh.
"i think i'm one too many protein shakes in for you to catch me, but i'll be glad to take you with me." He explained with a devilish grin.
They sat in silence for a few moments looking out into the night time, and Kay placed her hand on Sid's. She leaned her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. 'i'm lucky', she thought to herself. She stopped day dreaming to feel Sid's hands on her cheeks. She looked up at him as he feverishly pushed his lips to hers and she held onto the edge of the window sill. He pressed his forehead to hers.
"I better go" he whispered, "they're gonna wander where i am"
"just a little longer" Kay whispered back. She softly kissed him on the cheek and rested her head back on his shoulder.
"just a little" Sid agreed quietly.

"i've been trying to slow it down, i've been trying to take it in, in this here today gone tomorrow world we're living in."

So i'm back from 2 weeks of vacationing! It was perfect and i feel better than ever :) I went to Tybee Island, GA then to Atlanta to visit my great aunt and uncle. I met my little cousins Mia and Gigi for the first time since they live in California... thats pretty far haha. But i've learned a lot from them, even though Mia is only 3 and Gigi is 4. Though they may not know it, they've taught me a life lesson i will never forget.

To be honest, i never thought little kids could teach you much. I walked down to the basement where they were playing wii and i introduced myself. They were shy, and at that moment i didn't think i would form that big of a bond with them, but boy was i wrong. I sat down at their little table used for coloring and began to draw a picture. Sure enough, the girls got a little curious and asked me if i was a good artist. I said that i was ok and Gigi asked "Can you draw a mermaid?". "I can try." i answered. So i did. They loved it. Everyday they wanted to draw mermaids and sea creatures haha.

The rest of the week went on and we spent everyday together. We went rafting down the Chattahoochee River, and we went to a museum all about the civil war in Georgia. We became very close and it kind of made me wish i had a little sister instead of three brothers :P I did however become extra close to the younger one, Mia. She was always happy and bouncing around, wanting to do something. She was a hoot and i loved it. When the end of the week came and we had to say our goodbyes, i was absolutely dreading it. I hugged everyone and saw Mia standing off to the side away from everyone, probably wandering what was going on. I knelt down and opened my arms for a hug. She ran into them and i picked her up. Then, she looked at me and said something i will not soon forget; "i love you, I'll miss you". I just smiled and thought "what do i say? should i say i love you back? How can a 3 year old say and i can't?". Then i finally said "I'll miss you too". Why couldn't i say i love you back to her?

Now, I'm sure you're thinking 3 year olds aren't that smart and they don't know the meaning of love. But they're not stupid. They know what they want, what they don't want. What they like and dislike. She knew she loved me, and it was sincere when she said it. The point that I'm trying to get to is that we should learn from Mia. She says what she feels without a second thought, unlike most of us. As we get older, we claim to get "wiser" but we also get colder and more shielded... time is funny the way it works.

I really do wish i would have said i love you back to Mia, because even after that one week, i really did create a special bond with her. Come to think of it, i wish i would have done a lot of things. I wish i would be nicer to my mom sometimes. I wish i would tell my dad how much he means to me, even though I'm growing up and may not show it all the time. I wish me and my oldest brother could be closer instead of being in different cities. I wish i laughed more. I wish i cried more. I wish i could let my guard down, do something new, and i will. I'll take what Mia has taught me; let yourself love and be loved. There's not enough time in life to hold back. As Kenny Chesney once put it, "when your hour glass runs out of sand you can't flip it over and start again so take every breath God gave you for what it's worth... 100 years goes faster than you think, so don't blink".

Thanks,
DNR.

fifteen.

July 14, 2005

Kay replayed the events of the previous night over and over. Sid was perfect; there was no other explanation. She hardly even got any sleep because she couldn't stop thinking about him.
The next day, the two were at the Lemieux's pool. Since they never go, they decided they would, considering it was really hot and nice out. The kids were swimming with them too. Kay was laying on a raft and Sid was pushing her around.
"What are we doing tonight?" Sid asked as he rested his head on her shoulder.
"I don't know, whatever you want." Kay replied, pecking him on the lips.
"No, i'll do whatever you want to do. You pick." He insisted.
"you're the creative one." Kay continued, Sid fought back though.
"no i'm not"
"yes" She smiled.
"no" Sid said, giving her a kiss to stop the arguing. "pick."
Kay began to think. It was about 12:00 so they had a whole day ahead of them. "dinner?" she said, knowing it was the most uncreative thing ever.
"Babe we always go to dinner." Sid whined. Before Kay could say anything, Austin spoke up.
"Hey guys, guess what?" Austin blurted out.
"what?" Kay and Sid said simultaneously.
"I really want to go to the zoo. Really bad." He said, putting emphasis on the really. Kay and Sid looked at each other.
"Did you tell your mom and dad that?" Sid asked
"yep" Austin nodded.
"well maybe we'll go" Sid said, looking at Kay. She smiled in approval.
"yesss" Austin got excited. They all laughed and Sid put him in a playful headlock as Austin fought back. They eventually gave up and Sid told the kids that they should go get ready. Immediately, they all got out of the pool and ran into the house. Sid got out and dried himself off, shaking the water off his hair.
"I guess we've figured out what we're doing" Kay chuckled.
"i guess so" Sid laughed, holding up a towel for Kay as she got out of the pool. She wrapped it around her.
"well i better go get ready" Kay said, gathering up her things.
"You can just get a shower here if you want" Sid said nonchalantly. Kay thought about it. She had all her clothes and everything, and she had a little makeup in the car.
"ok. i'll do that." she answered, taking Sid's hand and walking up to the house. They walked up the steps onto the back deck and through the screen door. Sid went into Mario's office to make sure it was ok if they took the kids and Kay waited. When Sid came back out, he led Kay up to his room.
"Ok. my shower's right there." he said, pointing to his bathroom. Kay nodded. "i'm gonna get one in the guest bedroom so you can have that one." he grabbed a towel and gave Kay a kiss before leaving and shutting the door behind him. Kay opened the door to the bathroom which was rather big. It had a roomy shower with a glass door and a marble counter with a sink. There was also a sky light right above the shower. She saw some of Sid's things sitting on the sink in a dark green duffle bag thing. She peeked in, knowing she shouldn't snoop, but she did anyway. There was a razor and shaving cream. "He hardly has any facial hair" she thought, and smiled. "cologne, deoderant, travel shampoo and soap, a comb, gel, Q tips, tooth brush, tooth paste... condoms?" she mummbled. "hmm". She turned on the shower and forgot about it. Of course he was gonna have those. He was almost 18 and could have any girl he could possibly want.
When the water warmed, Kay got in. She used Sid's Adidas shampoo even though it was for men; she just wanted to wash her hair. When she was done, she got out and grabbed a towel off the shelf in the corner next to the toilet. She wrapped it around her and walked out into Sid's room to get her clothes. Coincidentally, Sid walked in at the same time with a towel wrapped around his waste, revealing his freakishly toned hip muscles. Kay couldn't help but stare. Sid was looking at her too, though.
"Your bathroom's really nice" was all she could say.
"Glad you liked it" Sid chuckled, snapping himself out of it and grabbing his clothes off his bed, just as Kay was doing. They sorted through their stuff as they stood next to each other. Sid looked over at Kay. "i think you should wear that." he laughed, obviously joking.
"& I think you should wear that." Kay looked up at him and gave him a kiss. She pat him on the chest and grabbed her clothes, disappearing back into the bathroom. Sid just shook his head and smiled to himself.
Kay got dressed in her jean shorts and white summer top. She let her hair air dry, making it wavy, and emerged from the bathroom when she was finished. Sid came into the room dressed, also.
"ready?" he asked, the keys in his hand.
"yep" Kay replied. They walked down the stairs and ushered the kids into the SUV. Mario and Nathalie warned them to be careful, and they were off. Sid and Kay played games with the kids as they drove to the zoo. When they arrived, Sid bought all the tickets and they went up the big escalator to the zoo. They all held hands with each other; Sid was on one end and Kay was on the other. A few people asked for Sid's autograph and took a few pictures, but other than that they were pretty good about leaving him alone.
First they saw all the animals. They were looking at the elephants when something popped into Kay's mind.
"Sid, how come you didn't work out or anything today?" she asked. Sid turned to face her, but still kept an eye on the four kids.
"i don't know, i just took a day off." he answered, wandering why she was so concerned.
"well, i mean, i don't want you to stop your work outs to 'hang out'." Kay said, looking into his eyes.
"I know. Don't worry about it." He said, smiling at her to let her know it was fine. He squeezed her hand and the kids tugged on their shirts for them to go to the next exhibit. They continued on into the zoo and, later on, the aquarium. They payed extra special attention to the penguins, too.

They definitely had a full day. By the time they were on their way out of the zoo, it was 6:00. They all walked out the same way they came in, hand in hand, and they made their way to the car. Kay helped them all into the car and they were on their way.
"So did everyone have fun?" Kay asked, looking back at them. All the kids had their own stuffed animal they had bought.
"yeah!" they all shouted, and thanked Sid and Kay for taking them.
"i'm really hungry" Austin chimed in.
"Me too. Your mom got dinner." Sid said as he looked in the rear view mirror at him.
"nice" he replied with satisfaction.
They pulled into the driveway and the kids bolted into the house to tell everyone about their day. Sid and Kay stood in front of the garage.
"i love going to the zoo with you" Sid said, pressing his lips to Kay's forehead.
"Come over to my house anytime you want, it's the same thing." Kay joked, making Sid laugh.
"Except you don't look like an animal" Sid mused. Kay slipped her hands into the back pockets of his shorts, making Sid smile.
"well thanks" she chuckled
"Sometimes you act like one though..." Sid admitted. Kay leaned her head on his chest and rolled her eyes.
"jerk" she joked.
"i'm sorry" Sid chuckled.
"You're not forgiven" Kay smiled devilishly as she removed her hands from his pockets and walked into the Lemieux's house. Sid walked swiftly after her.
"Hey Nathalie" Kay greeted
"Kay! Thanks again for taking the kids today. Have some dinner." Nathalie insisted and Kay took a seat. Sid sat next to her as they dug into the Chinese take out Nathalie had got for all of them. They shared their stories from the zoo, and Kay and Sid helped clean the kitchen after dinner. Sid placed his hand on the small of Kay's back as her hands were submerged in the sink and whispered in her ear.
"Come to my room." Kay smiled slyly as she felt his breath on her neck. She dried her hands off and followed Sid, who was already half way there. She closed the door behind her and leaned back against it.
"yes?" She asked. Sid patted the bed next to him and she sat down. He brushed the hair off her shoulder and placed a kiss on her lips, making Kay wander. He then kissed her neck, his bee stung lips gliding along her soft skin.
"will you forgive me now?" Sid asked.
"mm.. maybe.." Kay teased. Sid pushed her onto her back and kissed under her chin down to her collar bone.
"how about now" Sid said in a seductive tone. Kay didn't say anything. He kissed her shoulder, moving her shirt strap out of the way. Kay held Sid's face, bringing him back face to face and kissed him sweetly. She rolled over onto him and got up.
"i've gotta go" she smiled as she turned to walk out of the room. Sid sat up on the edge of his bed with a grin on his face as she walked down the stairs.
"Bye Nathalie, thanks for dinner." Kay waved as she walked out the door, feeling triumphant in a weird way.

fourteen.

Following that Wednesday (june 27) that Kay met Sid's parents, Kay and Sid spent every moment they could together; they were rarely seen apart from one another. She would go to a lot of his practices just because she loved being in the rink, and when they weren't at a rink and Sid wasn't at a gym, they were at each other's houses or out having a good time. They were best friends but they were most definitely in love, even though they hadn't told each other that yet.

July 11, 2005

It was now Wednesday July 11, and Sid had something planned. He called Kay that evening asking if she wanted to go to a drive in movie to see Miracle. Of course, she said she would and Sid picked her up at 7 for the 7:40 movie. It was outside the city in a rural area so it was about a 30 minute drive. The whole way there, her and Sid chatted about random stuff, and soon enough they pulled into the open field with the big screen. There weren't that many people but there were some. Sid parked the car and put his arm around Kay. She rested her head on his shoulder.
"thanks for taking me to this" Kay thanked him once again, trying to talk quietly so she wouldn't disturb the peace.
"You're welcome, babe." Sid smiled. Kay looked up at him.
"Sid?"
"hmm"
"i really like it when you call me babe" Kay whispered.
"Really?" he raised his eyebrows and pecked her on the lips. "well that's why i do it... babe."
They both smiled.
"When does training camp start?" Kay asked, switching the subject.
"August 4"
"aww" Kay frowned, "then i'm really going to have to share you"
Sid laughed, "yeah but we still have like 20 days so let's enjoy them." He leaned down and kissed her sweetly on the lips. Kay smiled into his lips.
"mm i'd like that."
They continued kissing for a while. They had seen Miracle before so it's not like they were missing anything. They only broke apart because there was something on Sid's mind.
"Kay can i ask you something?" He asked, seeming kind of hesitant. Kay furrowed her eyebrow.
"anything" she replied.
"well, not like i was planning on doing this anytime soon... cause if you don't want to we really don't have to... ever. i don't care. I just want to be with you. I'm not just in it for that." He said, trying to get to the point but having some trouble. Kay smiled as he rambled on.
"Sid, what is it?" she stopped him and he looked into her eyes.
"ok. have you ever.. ya know. are you a virgin still?" He finally asked.
"yeah... i never really had a real relationship until you, so it was never the right time." She answered. Sid felt relieved to finally get that out there. "Are you?" Kay asked, knowing he probably wasn't.
"No, i had this girlfriend back in Rimouski when i was 16.. almost 17." He could see Kay's face. She hated the thought of him with anyone else. "but i'm with you now, and that's the only place i wanna be." he assured. Kay perked up a little. He brushed the strand of hair out of her face and pressed his lips to hers. She ran her hand over his cheek and leaned on him. He always said the right stuff at the right time.
When the movie ended, Sid drove Kay home and they said goodnight, like always. Kay felt relieved that Sid brought up the subject, and Sid was glad he finally got it off his chest. They were just that much closer now.

July 13, 2005

On Thursday, Sid couldn't do anything with Kay because he had to do stuff with RBK all day, but Kay totally understood. When he got home around 9:30, he called her and they talked for a long time on the phone. He apologized a million times for not being able to see her. However, Sid had an idea that would make up for it. He had been thinking about their relationship and realized that they told everything to each other, except for one thing. The three most important words in a relationship; i love you. On Wednesday night when they were at the drive in, it felt so right. Sid knew exactly what he wanted to say. It was about time to say it, and both of them knew it.
So tonight, Sid had something planned. He called Kay as soon as he got back from the gym at 10.
"Hey stud" Kay answered her phone as she rolled around in bed.
"Hi, how are you on this fine morning?" he smiled
Kay laughed, "I'm good Mr. Crosby."
"Good. Cause tonight i'm taking you somewhere." He said, not being able to contain is excitement any longer.
"oh god." Kay laughed. "kid napping me again?"
"yep." he responded. "I'll pick you up at 9."
"Nine?!" Kay questioned.
"yes nine."
"what are we gonna do at nine?" She said suspiciously.
"Babe, it's the middle of summer AND it's a Friday. People don't even go to bed anymore... except you."
This made Kay laugh. "I need my beauty sleep."
"You are always beautiful, even without sleep. Now, i have to go, but i'll see you tonight. Be prepared." He said in a mischievous tone.
"oh i'm prepared. bring it."
Sid chuckled, "oh i will". He hung up the phone and Kay just shook her head and laughed to herself. She walked into her bathroom, and turned on the shower to get ready for the day.

Later that night, she ate dinner at 6 with the rest of the family and informed them of her plans. When she was done helping her mom with the kitchen, she went up to her room and finished getting ready. She had decided on wearing a dress, since Sid loved when she wore dresses. It was a red one from Victoria's Secret that she bought a couple weeks back, but never wore.
She was standing in the mirror checking to make sure everything was ok when the doorbell rang. "I got it!" Kay yelled and made her way down the stairs. She opened the door, stepping outside, and turning to face Sid.
"I'm doing everything i can to hold myself back right now" he stated with a completely straight face. Kay couldn't help but laugh.
"Come on" she said, taking his hand and going to the car he brought. "Sid when are you gonna get a car of your own?" she asked as he opened the door for her.
"i don't know... when i start making money?" he walked around to the other side and got in.
"good point" Kay chuckled.
They made their way toward downtown, but they didn't go into the city. They started going up winding hills and Kay recognized it right away.
"i think i know where we're going!" She said, getting excited.
"do you?" Sid tried being secretive.
"yes!" She looked out the window like a little kid. Sid just laughed. They finally pulled up in the same spot Sid took her a while back. Mount Washington. Kay couldn't stop smiling. She leaned over and gave him a huge kiss on the cheek.
"Come on" she got out of the car and stood at the edge of the hill, staring out at the city. Sid stood beside her and took her hand.
"remember this?" he smiled
"yes i remember it." She said, giving him a kiss on the lips. He led her back to the car and they sat on the hood of it. They sat in silence for a few moments, taking in the view.
"You look amazing tonight" Sid broke the silence. Kay turned to see Sid looking at her as she was looking at the city, and she blushed.
"thanks" She smiled and moved over closer to him.
"it's a little windy up here" he stated, taking off his navy blue reebok sweat shirt and giving it to her before she could argue. She slipped it on over her head. She loved the way he smelled. He put his arm around her, pulling her closer. She layed back, resting her head in his lap and looking up at the stars.
"I brought you here cause i really wanna tell you something." Sid began. Kay now concentrated all her attention on him. Sid took a deep breathe and continued, "Kay, when i'm with you it's the best feeling ever. Better than scoring the game winning goal in triple overtime or something like that." He smiled and looked out over the city, obviously nervous because he usually looks her right in the eyes. Kay softly laughed at the statement. Sid made eye contact and went on. "i hope you know, i would do anything for you. I wanna be there for you."
Kay nodded.
"Anyway... i love you.." he said looking down at her. Her smile grew wider as she looked up into his hazel eyes. She tugged on his shirt and pulled him down to her. They both smiled as they kissed each other, and Kay sat up for more control, without breaking the kiss. She pressed her hand against his chest and pushed him back so that they were both laying against the windshield. They finally broke apart, their faces still close.
"i love you too"

thirteen.

(still june 25)

That night, Sid and Kay played with the kids for the rest of the time. Sidney drove Kay home around 1o since he didn't want her walking home in the dark. They stood at her front porch not wanting to say goodbye, but they were going to see each other tomorrow anyway. They kissed goodbye and Kay went to bed, but not before getting a text from Sid saying goodnight yet again.

June 26, 2005

The next day was a big one. Sid was at practice by the time Kay woke up at 10, but he texted her after he was done around 12.

hey i'm going to pick my parents up right now. how'd you sleep?
hey! ok i can't wait to meet them :) and my sleep was good. you were in my dream lol
oh really? you'll have to tell me all about it later lol i have to get on I79 now so i'll text you later
okk talk to you soon

"hey Kay do you think you could go down to the giant eagle and get some things. I'm kind of busy." Kay's mom shouted from downstairs.
"sure just write me a list" Kay replied. She grabbed her purse and went downstairs with her hair still wet up in a bun.
"thanks" her mom smiled and handed her the money and the list.
one gallon milk
eggs
yoplait yogurt
1 loaf bread
bagels
lettuce
tomato
whole grain tortilla wraps

Kay walked out the door and out to her car. She drove the ten minutes to Giant Eagle and went straight to the dairy section.
"milk, eggs, yogurt..." she mumbled to herself. She picked up the one gallon of milk, then the carton of eggs, then the package of yogurts and set them all in the basket she was carrying. Next, she wandered over to the bread and picked up the bread, bagels, and wraps. Then to the vegetables to get the lettuce and tomato. She headed to the check out line and got into a random one without bothering to look how many people were in it. She wasn't in a rush.
She got up to check her stuff out only to look up and see Jacob working the counter. "oh god" she thought, and put on a fake smile.
"hi kay" he smirked
"hi" she said, putting the groceries on the conveyor belt.
"How have you been?" he asked still looking at her.
"fine. you?"
"i've been better but ya know... so you still with Sid? What'd your parents think about that?" wow was this guy nosey. Something in Kay snapped and her tone got sharper.
"yes i'm still with him, as if it's any of your business. My parents are fine with it. Just stay out of it Jacob." She tried not to cause a scene and grabbed her groceries, walking them out to her car, only to find Jacob following after her. He caught up to her as she was approaching her car.
"He's no good for you Kay!" he shouted.
"Please leave me alone." Kay said, still trying to keep her cool as she unlocked her car.
"He'll hurt you. Just wait and see. There's other bitches out there that are way hotter than you!" Jacob yelled from outside the car as Kay got in. She set the bags of groceries in the passenger seat and she felt like she was going to cry at the thought of Jacob's statement becoming true.
"You're such an asshole." She said as she rolled her window up and backed out of her spot, leaving Jacob standing there. A tear rolled down her face as her anger bottled up more and more. She drove home with her mascara slowly wiping away and all she could think of was what Jacob had said. Sid was a professional athlete, and she knew how they could be. The only sound in the car the whole way home was the bags ruffling in the passenger seat.
She pulled into the driveway and parked the car in the normal spot outside the garage. She hit the steering wheel so hard it made her palms sting. She slumped over the wheel and cried. What was she crying about exactly? She didn't know. Maybe it was what Jacob said, or maybe it was the fear of being with Sid in general.
After getting all of her emotions out, she flipped the mirror down and attempted to wipe away the black surrounding her eyes. She saw Sid walking down the driveway and scrambled to perk up. She didn't want Sid to see her like this emotional wreck. When he noticed she was in the car, he walked over to it and opened the door. Kay grabbed the groceries and got out of the car.
"Hey" Sid smiled. The smile quickly turned to confusion when he saw her face.
"Hi" Kay smiled. She set the bags down and he pulled her into a hug. She rested her head on his shoulder and he clasped his hands around the small of her back.
"what's up?" he asked in a concerned tone. Kay knew this wasn't just a 'hey what's crackin' what's up. This was a 'who's ass should i kick now' what's up.
"nothing..." Kay tried to brush it off as she looked away. Before Sid could argue, she snapped her head up to look at Sid with a hurt expression. "i saw Jacob at the store." was all she needed to say. Sid took a deep breathe, as if trying to control himself.
"What happened?" He looked right at her.
"well, he checked out all this stuff and asked me about you, then i told him to stay out of my business and i tried to leave but he followed me out to my car." she paused. "then he said you were no good for me and that 'there were hotter bitches out there'," she quoted. Sid tensed up.
"I would never do that to you Kay" he said, realizing that's what she was upset about.
"i know" she said quietly.
"Jacob's an asshole. just ignore him." Sid said, trying to keep her calm. In reality, he wanted to beat the crap out of the guy.
"I'll try." Kay managed to say. Sid kissed her forehead then grabbed the bags and headed into the house with Kay.
"Hi Mrs. Brady" Sid greeted when he saw Kay's mom.
"Hi Sid" she greeted. She didn't seem to mind him as much. Kay told Sid to set the stuff on the table, so he did.
"So we're gonna go eat at 6 tonight... your parents are welcome to come if you think they can handle that. Mario said he would control himself." he said smiling and trying not to laugh.
"i think they better be left out this time for our own safety" she whispered, stifling her laughter.
"ok. Well what do you wanna do?" Sid asked. Kay checked the clock. It was around 2.
"you can hang around here if you want..." she then remembered his family was at the Lemieux's. "but you have your family here. you should hang out with them."
"no it's fine, i told them i was coming to see you and they said it was ok. They're just getting unpacked and catching up with Mario and Nathalie and stuff." he quickly responded. Kay perked up.
"ok" she smiled, tugging on Sid's hand to come up to her room. They went in and sat down on the carpeted floor. Sid began to examine her pictures that were all over the place; on the mirror, on the dresser, on the wall, etc.
"Who's this?" he asked, pointing to a picture of her on an outdoor ice rink with a tall man.
"oh that's my dad when he was younger... much younger" she laughed. "he played hockey too you know."
"hm. didn't know that. What does he do for his job?"
"he manages all the financial stuff for the Columbus Blue Jackets. That's why he's not here all the time.. he has a lot of meetings and stuff in Ohio." she said, watching Sid study the pictures.
"oh well that makes sense. That's pretty cool. Do you know any of the guys?" he asked.
"yeah some of them."
They continued talking about her pictures and the time flew by. Before they knew it, Kay had to get ready.
"i think i'm gonna get ready now" she started.
"ok" Sid said, "i'm already ready"
"oh ok. well you can stay if you think you won't get too bored." Kay offered.
"i'm never gonna get bored as long as i'm with you" he smiled that toothy grin of his, obviously trying to come up with a catchy phrase.
"You're so corny" Kay laughed.
"hey, i try." he admitted. She turned on her curling iron and went to her closet.
"what should i wear?" she yelled.
"uhm... don't get too dressed up. just casual."
Kay searched through the hung up clothes and pulled a couple things out. First, dark wash jean shorts and a brown flowered shirt with metallic gladiator sandals. The second outfit was a green sun dress the fell just above her knee that she would wear with regular sandals. Third, skinny jeans and a fancy black tank top which she would wear with a pair of black heels.
"ok i picked three things." she said as she layed them on the floor in front of where Sid was sitting. He studied them.
"i don't know i kinda like the dress..." he wriggled his eyebrows and Kay just laughed.
"ok. i'll wear the dress just for you." she said half-joking as she went into the bathroom. She shut the door but not the whole way, so it was cracked. She took off her shorts and tee shirt and slipped the dress on. She opened the door and stood there. Sid looked up from the scrap book he was looking at, and a grin crept onto his lips.
"beautiful" he complimented.
"why thank you" Kay smiled walking over to her curling iron and sitting on the bench in front of her vanity. She began to curl her hair, and Sid just watched.
"so you have to tell me about that dream i was in." he remembered her telling him about how she had a dream.
"ok. well we were at dinner with your mom and dad, and we were in a restaurant that had hardwood floors. We were sitting there talking, then all of a sudden my chair fell through the floor and you were like 'what the hell?'" Kay laughed, and so did Sid.
"I'd say that's one weird dream. Did i save you?" he asked.
"no! it gets worse. you just sat there and kept talking to your parents!" Sid was now laughing harder.
"If you fell through the floor i would help you, you know." He chuckled at the thought of it.
"That's reassuring" Kay said jokingly.
They both talked about the different dreams they have and how weird they are. When they ran out of things to talk about, Kay turned on her radio to 96.1 kiss. One of her favorite songs came on and she began quietly singing along.

just an old friend coming over now to visit you
and that's what i've become
i let myself in though i know i'm not supposed to but,
i never know when i'm done.
and i see you fogging up the mirror
vapor 'round your body glistens in the shower
and i wanna stay right here, and go down on you for an hour
or stay. and let the day just fade away
in wild dedication take the moment of hope
and let it run, and never look back at all the damage we have done now to each other
Cause when i see you, it's like i'm staring down the sun
and i'm blinded . there's nothing left to do. still i see you
("blinded" by third eye blind)

She turned to see Sid listening to her. She blushed when she found out he was actually listening.
"what?" she said looking back into the mirror.
"nothing." Sid smiled.
When she was finished with everything, she grabbed her purse.
"ready?" Sid asked, looking her over.
"am i?" she asked, noticing Sid was checking her out.
"yes" he laughed and gave her a peck on the lips. They walked down the stairs and out to her car holding hands. Sid drove. When they got to Andora (the restaurant), he opened Kay's door for her.
"here goes.." she said jokingly.
"it will be fine i promise." Sid took her hand and they walked into the place, finding the Lemieux's and Crosby's sitting at a table with two empty seats.
"Hi Kay!" Nathalie said, standing up to give Kay a hug. Mario did the same. Sid pulled a chair out for her and she took her seat. She noticed the kids weren't here, and figured they got a babysitter.
"This is my dad, Troy. And this is my mom, Trina." Sidney introduced all three of them and they all shook hands and smiled. "This is my sister Taylor." Taylor smiled at Kay and nodded her head.
"We've heard a lot about you." Trina said with a huge smile.
"Yeah i've heard a lot about you too. Sid talks about you a lot." Kay chuckled. Trina, Troy, and Taylor all got to know Kay. She talked about where she was going to school, what she planned to do, and how Sid and her met. There was a lot of smiling; it went pretty smoothly. Sid could tell Kay fit right in and that his parents loved her. Kay could tell Troy was more reserved but he wasn't hostile or anything. At the end of dinner, Sid and Kay were both satisfied.
"You are welcome to come back to our house, Kay." Nathalie said as they exited the restaurant. Kay looked at Sidney and he nodded his head.
"i'd love to." she agreed. Sid's sister and parents went to their car, and the Lemieux's to theirs. Sid and Kay walked back to Kay's car.
"Your family is amazing, Sid." Kay said once she got into the car.
"i told you" Sid laughed. "Are you ok with going back to the Lemieux's?"
"yeah it's fine. I could spend all night with your mom she's so nice."
Sid laughed, "ok. good."
They pulled into the Lemieux's driveway and Sid turned to Kay.
"You're amazing." he smiled. Kay raised her eyebrow.
"so are you!" she pecked him on the lips and jumped out of the car, signaling Sid to come on. He just laughed to himself and got out. They spent their time at the Lemieuxs chatting with Sid's parents along with Mario and Nathalie. They also played video games in the basement with all the kids. Kay really sucked at them, but Sid helped her.
When it neared 10:30, Sid asked if Kay wanted to go.
"You ready?"
"sure. let me say goodbye" She got up and went over to Nathalie and Mario, and thanked them for having her. Then, she went over to Troy and Trina, hugging them both and saying how nice it was to meet them.
"We'll have to get together again. We leave on Friday afternoon." Trina pointed out.
"oh yeah definitely. I'll see you later, then." Kay responded.
Sid and her left and drove the few blocks to Kay's house. He walked her to her doorstep, as usual.
"Did you have fun?" he asked.
"yes, so much." kay smiled. There was a silence.
"You know, i'm just an old just an old friend coming over now to visit you." Sid smirked.
"what?" Kay asked, confused.
"I let myself in, though i know i'm not supposed to."
"Sid. What are you talking about?" she continued to question, not knowing what Sid was doing. Suddenly he broke out into song and started dancing.
(singing) "and i see you fogging up the mirror, vapor 'round you body glistens in the shower"
"oh shut up... stop... don't!" Kay protested. She started laughing, placing her hands on his chest and pushing him away.
"and i wanna stay right here and go down on you for an hour!" he sang with such enthusiasm.
"Shhh! shh!" Still, he sang louder and louder. She put his hand over his mouth and the sound was muffled but he still continued.
(muffled) "oh! stay, and and let the day just fade away!"
"SHH!" Kay still had a smile on her face, and with one last shh, he stopped, cleared his throat and straightened up with his hands in his pockets just smiling at her. There was a pause...
(singing) "Just an old friend coming over now to visit you, and that's what i've become..." Kay started to sing and the grin on her face grew winder as she started dancing. Sid looked into her eyes.
"Kay, i really wanna kiss you right now." he said
"shut up and dance!" Kay said, slapping his huge butt, she began to dance around him, and she continued to sing; "..I let myself in though i know i'm not supposed to and i never know when i'm done!" She grabbed his hands. He couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous she was being. Suddenly, with Kay in the middle of her sentence, he leaned in toward her and kissed her. Kay immediately shut up, and wrapped her hands around his neck. As if it could get any better, this kiss was better than last nights. It was so passionate but so gentle. He pressed his lips on hers, letting his tounge touch her lips, and wrapped his hands around her back. He pressed his body on hers. They pulled apart and looked at each other. Both of them felt like something should have been said... something that begins with an L and has four letters. It felt like the perfect time, but they weren't in a rush. They had forever to say that.
"you're crazy" Sid said.
"you love it." Kay joked.
"yeah.. not gonna lie.. it's pretty attractive." Sid laughed, and so did Kay. She decided to conclude the night before Sid felt the need to sing again.
"goodnight, Sid."
"goodnight" he smirked in complete satisfaction. He turned on his heel and started home. It was just another fairytale ending to another great evening.

twelve.

one quick thing. I have been saying Sid is 18 this whole time, but he's actually 17. sorry for the mix up!

June 25, 2005

Once again, Kay woke up in her bed on a Tuesday morning as happy as ever. Yesterday had been such a good day, she could do it everyday. She got up, got a shower and brushed her teeth, before putting some jean shorts and a tee shirt on. While she was putting a little bit of makeup on, her phone started ringing. She looked at the caller ID and noticed it was Sid.
"helloo" she said happily
"hey you, whats up?" Sid said on the other end.
"nothing just getting ready for the day. what are you up to?"
"driving to the gym right now. do you have plans for today?" he asked
"i'm not sure. i was hoping i could hang out with a guy named Sidney... but he has a lot of things to get done and i just spent one of the best days ever with him. i think i need to share him with the rest of the world," she joked. She could tell Sid was smiling.
"I think he can make time for such a beautiful girl like you, cant he?" he played along, and Kay just laughed, then he continued. "you should come over tonight."
"alright. what time?"
"seven good?" he asked, making sure it was ok.
"Yeah that's fine. Do you want me to bring anything?" she thought he might want her to bring a movie or something.
"nope i think we're good." he answered, to her surprise. Sid pulled into the parking lot of the gym and put the car in park. Kay was just about to ask him about something, but he started talking again. "ok well i gotta go. i'll text you when i'm done." he assured.
"Ok i'll talk to you later, then." Kay said, disappointed that she didn't get to ask him what she wanted.
"you ok?" Sid asked, sensing the tone she had taken.
"oh. yeah i'm good. go tone those muscles." she managed to chuckle a little and Sid did the same
"i'll try" he smiled "talk to you soon"
"byee" They ended the conversation, and right after Kay hung up, Cass was calling
"hey cass" she greeted
"Kay! we have to do something today i'm being deprived of you." Cass said in a panic, and Kay began laughing.
"ok well i'm going to see Sid tonight at seven but we can probably do something til then?"
"of course you're going to see him." Cass interjected, "you two are never apart, i swear."
"i'm sorryy" Kay whined knowing Sid had been stealing her away from her best friend a lot.
"it's ok i understand... i mean... if i had that i would be with him all the time too" Cass chuckled.
"yeah he's pretty amazing, not to brag or anything" Kay poked back. "alright what are we gonna do"
Cass thought for a minute, then answered. "i'm craving some ice cream and i think we should probably go shopping."
"ok. ice cream and shopping it is. Come over at 12:30" Cass and Kay were so used to making plans with each other, they just got straight to the point. Cass agreed to be at Kay's house at 12:30, and they hung up the phone. Sure enough, Cass pulled into the driveway and Kay met her at her car. She got into Cass's passenger seat and they headed towards the town of Sewickley to get ice cream. They drove to Ross Park Mall eating their ice cream and talking about anything and everything. Before they knew it, they pulled into the parking lot of the mall and walked through the doors of Forever 21. They started looking around, then Sid texted Kay just as he promised.
miss me? he typed
yes!
haha what are you up to?
at the mall with Cass
sounds fun. are you ok? you sounded like you needed to say something on the phone before.
Sid, i promise you, i'm perfectly fine.
ok.. well i'll let you have fun with Cass.
k. can't wait to see you :) me either :)
"Is Sid stealing my time with you again?!" Cass joked.
"yep" Kay smiled and shut her phone. Cass just laughed and shook her head.

At the end of their day, Kay didn't buy anything. She had enough stuff, and she didn't have a job this summer so she didn't have a lot of money. Cass, however, bought a few outfits that Kay and her decided were perfect. Cass dropped Kay off at her house around 5 and instructed her to have fun with "her boy toy" tonight. Kay assured her she would and headed into her house. She heard her mom in the kitchen getting dinner ready, so she went to give a hand
"hey mum"
"hi honey how was your day" her mom asked
"good. what are we eating for dinner?" Kay leaned on the counter and watched her mom kneed the ball of dough on the counter top.
"Stromboli" Her mom answered with a smile. Kay loved Stromboli.
"yesss" Kay said as she sat down at the island. "i'm gonna go see Sid after dinner. is that alright?"
"that's fine" her mom showed no expression. Kay sat there for a few more moments then decided to go up to her room. She sat on her bed and thought about what she wanted to talk about with Sid tonight. The whole college thing. Even though she didn't show it a lot, she was really worried about going to college. She wondered why Sid didn't consider college? She knew he was one of the best hockey players in the world, but didn't he want to experience it? And when she went to college, would they still be together? The sound of Leland's voice snapped her out of it.
"Kay it's time to eat" he yelled up the stairs
"Ok!" she replied. She shook the thoughts out of her head. She wouldn't be moving into her dorm for another two months. It was way too early to be thinking about all this, she knew that, but that's just how she was; worrying about everything.
After dinner, she cleaned up the kitchen, then headed over to see Sidney. She was about 15 minutes early but she knew he wouldn't mind. It took her only about two minutes to walk over to the Lemieux's, and when she got there she went to the front door and knocked. She heard Sid almost running down the steps to open the door.
"hey" he smiled and let her in. He was in a pair of blue gym shorts and a white rbk tee shirt. She didn't say anything, she just smiled back. She noticed the house was quiet.
"where is everyone?"
"they all went out to dinner with a family friend or something." Sid responded, and started up the stairs. Kay slipped her shoes off and followed. They walked down a long hall way to the other end of the house. He opened the door to his room and entered.
"you're quiet..." Sid stated, sitting down down his bed. Kay sat down next to him and sighed, looking up to meet his gaze.
"yeah i was with Cass today and all she talks about is going to college. it's kinda freaking me out" she chuckled, realizing how stupid she sounded.
"College is going to be fun. don't stress over it." sid said. "besides, it's two months away. you still have time."
Kay nodded, "yeah you're right." she faintly smiled, "how come you didn't wanna go to college?"
"well.. i dont know.. i did consider it. I just always thought it wasn't for me." he paused. "I got offers from Maine, North Dakota, and Notre Dame during my sophomore year, and i was really considering them. But i knew hockey was what i was gonna end up doing and i just wanted to do that."
"i see" Kay nodded, completely understanding where he was coming from. Who wouldn't wanna make millions of dollars a year ASAP?
"but you're lucky. you're gonna have the time of your life, trust me." he smiled. Kay laughed thinking about the future. "so what do you wanna do?" Sid asked.
"hm. i don't know. this conversation really put a downer on the whole night." Sid knew Kay was obviously joking and laughed.
"oh come on" he poked Kay in the stomach and she laughed harder. She playfully shoved Sid away and he fell off the bed. Kay got up to walk away. "hey" Sid grabbed her ankle and pulled her back. Kay couldn't hold back her laughter as she got pulled to the ground and began to attempt to crawl away. Sid pulled her back and pinned her to the floor, still with huge grins on their faces. They looked into each others eyes yet again.
"maybe you should have been a wrestler." Kay managed to say while she caught her breath.
"mm maybe.." Sidney leaned down and pressed his lips to Kay's. She rolled over so she was pinning him down and they broke apart.
"Lets go outside." She said, getting off of him. She went down the stairs with Sid following and they went out to the driveway. Kay picked up the basketball.
"i can't play basketball." Sid stated.
"me either" Kay smirked and continued to play around with the ball. "so. since i'm meeting your parents tomorrow, what should i know about them?" She asked.
"well, my dad's pretty conservative but he's nice. And you'll get along fine with my mom she likes you already." Kay smiled and passed him the basketball. "my little sister taylor's coming too. she's as old as Leland." He shot the ball and it bounced off the rim.
"What time will they be here?" Kay asked.
"their flight gets in at 2 in the afternoon, so I'm gonna pick them up at the airport after i workout." he dribbled a few times and shot the ball again, making the basket this time. "and then we can all go out to dinner around 6... the Lemieuxs are coming with us. i forgot to tell you."
"ok cool. sounds like fun." Kay approved. "do they know about the whole situation with my parents.." she asked timidly.
"Yeah i told my mom. She understands. People don't get along all the time." Sid answered nonchalantly. Kay felt relieved.
"ok good... So do you want me to meet you at the restaraunt or what" Kay needed to know all the plans cause she couldn't screw it up. Sidney laughed and walked over to her, looking down into her eyes.
"Kay, i'll pick you up and we can meet them all there. Don't worry about it." he could sense she was nervous. She never stopped worrying. Kay just smiled.
"alright. i'll try not to, but i'm still going to." She gave him a quick peck on the lips, catching him off guard, then grabbed the basketball out of his hands with a devilish grin. "lets play"
"what?" Sid smiled
"play a game, Sid." kay laughed.
".. i remember the last time we played a game" Sid tried to stifle his laughter remembering the night on the hood of the car.
"me too" Kay said, remembering the event as well. "but this game is different. it's basketball" she chuckled.
"ok" Sid agreed.
"game to five" Kay stated spinning the ball in her hands.
"and if i win i get to kiss you" Sid added. Kay made a confused face because they kissed all the time.
"deal" she smiled in agreement. They checked the ball and Kay got possession first.
"Brady with the ball. Taking an awful long time up there. I don't think she can handle Crosby." Sid narrated in a joking manner. He was really flat footed and Kay faked. Before Sid knew it, she went around him and shot the ball. It went off the back board and went in. "oh my god! she beat crosby! it went in!" he yelled. Kay flashed Sid a grin and gave him the ball. Sid just laughed. This time, he dribbled the ball waiting for Kay to make a move. She stood an arms length away just looking at him and waiting for him to do something. Finally, Sid decided to go. He tried to dribble past her and he nudged her away. He made the basket. 1-1.
Next, Kay decided to take a risk. She faked like she was going to dribble it in but stepped back and shot it. Somehow, it went in. "OH MY GOSH. Brady is on fire out there!" Kay yelled in her reporter voice. Sid just shook his head in defeat with a smirk on his face. Kay's confidence was building. Sid got the ball and tried doing the same exact thing he did the first time. Kay caught him and took the ball right off him. She shot and made it 3-1.
"oh come on" Sid stood there with his hands on his hips. "You're definitely not new at this."
"ok so i played til eighth grade.. that was like five years ago." Kay passed him the ball.
"What'd you eat for dinner tonight?" Sid asked out of nowhere while dribbling.
"Stromboli, why?" kay answered
"I think you got some on your shirt." Sid pointed and she looked down. He sprinted around her and practically dunked the ball. 3-2
"That wasn't even fair!" Kay jokingly complained. Sid just shrugged. Once again, she stood there with the ball. "Sid"
"what." Sid responded with a sly look on his face.
"you know what i really want?" she said, still dribbling.
"what do you really want?"
"i really want you." her tone was so flirtatious, and Sid stood up. He approached her and leaned in. Right away, Kay ducked under him and went in for the lay up. 4-2.
"ok. that was just plain mean" Sid pouted. Kay handed him the ball and pecked him on the cheek which made him smile. This was it, the ball was his. He had to be smart. He couldn't get beat by his own girlfriend. However, his dribbling really sucked. He held it out in plain sight and Kay grabbed it again, shot it, and made it.
"wow. do i still...?" sid said as he grabbed his crotch. "nope i think they're gone." Kay burst out laughing uncontrollably. Sid couldn't help but laugh himself. He'd never played basketball and he thought he put up a pretty good fight, so he wasn't mad about it.
"Sid we never said what i got if i won." she said when she could breathe again.
"ok what do you want" sid sighed dramatically, pretending to be utterly devastated.
"I want whatever you want." Kay smiled. The look on Sid's face turned to a grin and he pulled her closer by her waist.
"wait. is this another trick?" he squinted his eyes in a suspicious look, and pulled his head back. Kay shook her head no. "good," he said, clearly satisfied. He slowly leaned in, tilting Kay's chin up with his hand. Softly, he pressed his lips onto hers, weaving his tongue into the space between. Kay leaned on him as she got a weak sensation running through her body, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. When they finally parted, Kay didn't want to open her eyes, afraid that this all was some kind of bizarre day dream. She looked up to see Sid there. He licked his lips and smiled. Holy crap.
