Just as Sid had told her on Sunday morning, he was busy the rest of the week. It sucked and Kay was bored, but she caught up with her friends which was something she had been meaning to do. On Monday, Cassie slept over and on Tuesday they went over to Dan's house. Dan was one of Kay's good friends ever since freshman year. He always had a girlfriend and it upset Kay, but she realized they were just friends and that was all they would ever be. He got accepted to Penn State, the college he always wanted to go to. Kay was happy for him.
On Wednesday, Kay woke up and went running. She had finally convinced herself to start running again. She really did miss it.
Thursday, she woke up and ran again and saw Sid in the driveway getting ready to leave. She didn't stop, though. They talked every night on the phone so it's not like they had any new stuff to talk about. Sid just waved and she stuck her tongue out at him, making him smile. When she got back, her and Leland began the dreaded mulching that needed to be done; they didn't pay to have their lawn maintained because Kay's dad thought it was a total waste of money.
At dinner later that day, she got some news she wasn't too happy about.
"we invited Jacob and his family over for a visit tomorrow... for dinner." Kay's dad announced from the other end of the table. Kay just sat there looking at him.
"i'm not talking to him." she stated.
"you'll welcome them into our house properly, Kaylen." Her dad told her. Kay just shook her head and let out a sigh.
"why do you have to keep bringing him into the picture"
"we all know this little fling of yours isn't going to last. Jacob is going to make something of himself, and Sid, well, he's a hockey player." He responded.
"He's a great guy" she argued.
"i'm sure. But he's not for you, Kay."
What does he know, she thought to herself.
July 20, 2005
The mulching carried over to Friday (after she ran of course) and she was sitting in the planter pulling out every weed she came across when Sid came strolling into the driveway. It was around two in the afternoon. Her back was to him and she was cursing her parents for making her do this on a Friday.
"it's not like i really had anything better to do though, considering Sid can't do anything. And even if i didn't have him i still wouldn't be doing anything, because i, in fact, would still have no life." she mumbled to herself. She wasn't really making any sense and Sid stood behind her trying not to laugh. "this is boring as hell. somebody kill me." Sid cleared his throat making her jump and turn around. She laughed when she saw him and slapped him on the leg. "you scared me."
"sorry" Sid laughed, "guess what.."
"what"
"you do have a life" he smirked.
"I just hate yard work." Kay chuckled.
"really? i couldn't tell" Sid replied sarcastically and cracked a smile. He sat down next to her and helped her pull some of the straggling weeds that were left. "you wanna do something tonight?"
"um well, tonight's not a good night. rain check?" Kay tried to look like she was happy and nothing was wrong.
"yeah, sure. whatever works for you." Sid said, the confusion showing in his expression. Kay just nodded. It was awkwardly silent and Sid decided to end thier little visit. "i better get back to the Lemieux's."
"yeah." They both stood up and Sid gave Kay a kiss before leaving. It broke Kay's heart that she didn't tell him what was going on tonight, she just knew he wouldn't be happy about Jacob the creeper coming over. It was better not to tell him, and plus, it's not like she invited him herself.
Later that night, Jacob and his family arrived. Kay was still in her room. She was wearing a green dress since she had to look "nice" for everyone.
"Kay, come on." Leland poked his head in to tell her they were here.
"just a minute" she replied, then got up and followed her little brother down the stairs. She sat in the family room with everyone else and just listened to everyone talk. She also watched Jacob eye her up from across the room and wanted to vomit.
Dinner was finally finished and her mom put it out on the kitchen counter for everyone to help themselves. The parents sat outside on patio, Leland ran off somewhere, and Jacob loomed over Kay like a shadow in the kitchen.
"you haven't said much" Jacob said with a stuck up tone.
"so" Kay replied while being blocked into a corner by him.
"what's wrong" He asked.
like it's any of your business, She thought. "you." she said, managing to muster up the courage to tell him what she really thought of him. A smirk came across Jacob's face, then Kay heard a knock on the door. She looked through the glass to see Sid. "you've gotta be kidding me" she whispered to herself. She pushed Jacob out of the way and swiftly walked to the door, her heels making the clacking sound across the hardwood.
"hi" Sidney greeted with a yellow rose in hand.
"hi. uh.. i told you i couldn't see you tonight" Kay said nervously.
"i know, i'm sorry. i just-" Sid stopped when he saw Jacob his hand around Kay's waist like the little snake he was and Kay's eyes widened.
"get off me" she demanded.
"woahh ok there. feisty." Jacob said, backing away. He slipped back into the kitchen.
"what's going on." Sid asked when no one was around.
"my dad felt the need to invite Jacob and his family over for dinner." Kay explained, stepping out onto the porch with him and closing the door.
"i see" was all he said back. There was few moments of silence. "this is for you" he finally said, handing the rose to her.
"why thank you" she smiled as she admired it.
"i don't understand why your dad keeps trying to force him on you" Sid shoved his hands in his pockets and looked around.
"i don't understand either. i don't know how he can think Jacob is a good person. he's a freak. he cornered me in the kitchen and i honestly wanted to throw up." Kay said, getting flustered.
Sid cracked a smile "you should have" he shrugged. Kay laughed a little.
"ew sid, just ew"
"yeah, that was gross. sorry." Sid laughed. It was quiet.
"you wanna get out of here?" he asked with a mischievous look on his face. Kay thought about it for a moment.
"yup" she grinned. She slipped her heels off and carried them. Sid took her hand and they ran to the Lemieux's, quietly slipping away from the gathering. They went through the garage and let themselves into the house. Nat and Mario were in the basement and the kids were outside swimming. They went right up to Sid's room.
"your parents are gonna be mad at you" Sid teased.
"i don't care." Kay replied carelessly, throwing her heels on the floor and flopping down on Sid's bed that was covered by a big white comforter.
"good. Now, what do you wanna do." Sid asked as he sat down next to her. Kay noticed he had a tv with a VCR sitting on on top of his dresser, and he had a couple of videos even though they were old.
"lets watch a movie" she pointed to the tv. It was about 8:30 and the sun was setting.
"ok" Sid agreed. He walked over to his collection of videos and named them all. "we've got toy story, lion king, oliver & company-" Kay burst out laughing. "my mom packed these ok give me a break" Sid smiled and chucked bambi at her, then continued. "miracle which we already saw 50 times so that's dumb, the mummy, blair witch projects, silence of the lambs.."
"ooh blair witch projects" Kay wriggled her eye brows.
"ok. but when i have to kick you out and you have to walk home in the dark don't complain" Sid chuckled.
"you wouldn't" she gasped.
"i'm kidding" he assured. He popped the tape in and it began. They lay on his bed.
Lets just say Kay didn't really deal with scary movies very well. She looked like she was gonna crap her pants at any moment and Sid tried his hardest not to laugh. He had seen it before so he was fine.
"i can't even tell what's going on i wish they would hold the camera still for two seconds" she complained nervously, holding onto Sid and practically breaking his hand. It was the last ten minutes of the movie.
"well, it's a camcorder" Sid tried to explain.
"the girl keeps screaming in the background. what the heck." Kay closed her eyes, refusing to watch it.
The person with the camera sees a guy standing in the corner, she falls over, and it ends.
"it's over now, you can look" Sid told her. He turned the light on his nightstand on, and she sat up with a sigh of relief. She looked at the clock; 10:05 pm.
"well, i texted my parents and told them where i was. They'll get over it."
"you better get home though" He didn't want her getting in trouble. He got up, grabbed her shoes, and stood there waiting for her.
"siidddneyy" she whined, trying to pull him back.
"oh come on, stop being a baby" he smiled. He practically dragged her out of the room, down the stairs, and out the door through the garage. She just stood there in the dark with her dress and bare feet, not moving. "lets go" Sid urged. She stuck her bottom lip out. "i'll give you a piggy back ride" he coaxed. She gave in and hopped on.
"we're never watching a scary movie again" he announced in a joking manner as he carried her down the driveway.
"you're such a party pooper" She joked and kissed him on the cheek, making his nose scrunch up. "you know, i would much rather watch that movie with you than be stuck at my house socializing with the scum of the earth."
"aw i'm glad you feel that way" Sid laughed.

Scary movies are so much fun.. especially with Sid, haha. And Jacob is such a creeper. Seriously, his face would be broken if I was Kay. Good thing there's good ol' Sid to the rescue. :)
