twenty.

When seven rolled around, Kay was sitting in the living room with jean shorts on and a white abercrombie and fitch tank top. Sid knocked on the door at seven and she answered. He was wearing shorts, tennis shoes, and a hockey night in canada tee shirt.
"the lemieuxs arn't home so i thought we could drive your car" he stated.
"yeah sure" Kay answered him plainly. They walked out to the driveway and Kay got in the passenger seat. She handed Sid the keys and he climbed into the drivers seat.
The drive to wherever they were going was silent, but it wasn't an awkward silence. They just didn't have anything to say to each other, not yet anyway. Kay just looked out the window; it was quite a nice night. The storm had passed and there were rain drops still lingering on the leaves of the trees, but the sky was absolutely beautiful.
They drove for a while north until they came to a lake. It was quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Kay got out of the car with Sid and they walked down to the water, out onto a board walk type thing. Kay leaned on the railing to watch the sun go down while Sid stood behind her watching.
"what are you thinking about?" Kay asked quietly without turning around to look at him.
"you" he replied.
"thats new" she chuckled. Sid smiled and stood there with his hands in his pockets like he always does when hes nervous.
"do you forgive me for last night?"
"i'm getting there" Kay said, letting out a deep breath. Sid walked closer to her and wrapped his arm around her waist.
" how am i doing so far?" he whispered in her ear, making her spine tingle.
"you're doing ok." Kay bit her lip.
He innocently kissed her neck and rested his head on her shoulder, watching sun sink lower.
A few moments of silence went by.
"i think we're good together." Kay blurted out. Sid furrowed his eyebrows and chuckled.
"what?"
"..we're good together." she repeated, craning her neck to look at him behind her.
"we are" Sid nodded in agreement. She turned around in his arms and leaned back on the railing. Their lips brushed and her heart pounded.
"you get me every time" she whispered.
"i know" he whispered back and slowly moved his lips closer. He tilted his head as he kissed her and rested his hands on the railing behind her.

They stayed there sitting on the dock for a half hour more, barely talking. They were just enjoying each others company. When it was time to go, Sid spoke up.
"lets go" he got up and held his hand out for Kay. He helped her out and they walked to the car together.
"you know, nobody is home at my house. we should go there." she said as she slid into the passenger seat and Sid turned her car on.
"yeah we can do that" he responded with his eyes focused on the road. He had one hand gripping the bottom of the steering wheel. Kay turned on some music to pass the time.
They pulled into Kay's driveway and went to the front door. Kay unlocked it.
"want anything to drink?" she asked.
"i'm good" Sid answered. She nodded and led Sid upstairs to her room. They sat down on her bed.
"your birthday is in two weeks" Kay smiled, trying to make conversation.
"finally" he grinned.
"what do you want?" she asked. She was still thinking about what to get him/where to take him.
"i don't know i havn't really thought about it. we start training camp on the fourth so i might be busy" the smile on his face faded and so did Kay's.
"aww and i had a really good surprise" She teased, and fell back on the bed.
"and what would this surprise be?" Sid asked, turning around to her.
"it wouldn't be a surprise if i told you, Sid," she replied. Sid crawled closer to her.
"well maybe you should just give it to me now.." He leaned over her. His necklace was hanging down and Kay played with it.
"i don't know about that" she smirked.
"i think you should" he said, lowering himself onto her.
He was trying to be all romantic and smooth. He ran his hands over her torso, so she stretched her arms over her head. However, on the way up she nailed him in the nose. Her mouth hung open, not knowing what to say.
"oh my god! Sid!" she sat up. His nose was bleeding so she got up and ran to the bathroom, coming back out with a box of kleenex.
"thanks" Sid said as he sat up and held the tissue to his face.
"i'm sorry." she apologized "i ruined the moment."
"it's ok" Sid chuckled "we should wait.. obviously."
"obviously" Kay smiled.

nineteen.

After he left, Kay just sat there staring at the ceiling thinking to herself. She found herself saying a prayer since that's just what she does.
"so i havn't done this in a while." she started. "i'm sorry about that. but i'm completely lost. sometimes i feel so small. everything's happening so fast and it's like i can't slow it down. i love Sid with all my heart, don't let him get sucked into all the fame and fortune, please. i can't lose him."
It was short and sweet, just right. She changed out of her jeans and white tee into a tee shirt and underwear, and she got under the covers.

Meanwhile, Sid was back at the Lemieux's sitting in his room on his bed, throwing a stress ball against the wall. He couldn't believe what he had done. He just got tied up at the rink and instead of telling everyone he had to go, he stayed. He had been thinking about Kay the whole time and thought she would understand, she wouldn't be mad, because he didn't think she was like that. But it hurt her feelings, obviously. Over and over he threw the ball against the wall thinking about her. He finally thought of something to do and picked up his cell phone.
"Hi it's Sid" he began. "i'm not going to be able to make it to any meetings or anything tomorrow" he informed. "thanks. i apologize, there's just some things i have to take care of. ...yep.... later." he hung up and let out a deep breath. He sat there spinning his cell phone around between his fingers just staring at it, contemplating texting or calling Kay. It was late, though, and he decided against it. He lay back on his bed and fell asleep fully clothed.

July 24, 2009
Sid woke up with a groan and rubbed his face. He looked down and noticed he was still in his clothes. On top of that, it was storming pretty badly outside.
"i'm such an ass" he mumbled, rolling out of bed. It was 9:00, and he wandered downstairs, but there was no one there. A note was stuck on the fridge-

we all went out for the day
feel free to make yourself anything you want to eat
-Nat

Sid didn't bother eating, he just went back upstairs to his room and got a shower.

Across the street, Kay had woken up at the same time, feeling the same way; like a piece of crap. She sat up in bed and just stayed there for a while before getting into the shower. When she got out, she put some sweats on and went downstairs. Nobody was home in her house either. She figured they went to one of Leland's things, and she wandered into the laundry room to fold clothes in an attempt to help her mom out a little. She put the we clothes in the dryer and started it, then began to fold the dry ones, placing them into a basket. She kept thinking about Sid, and was day dreaming when the drier suddenly stopped and everything went dark. As if things could get any worse.
"oh COME ON" she yelled. Her voice echoed through the house, and she walked out into the foyer. She sat down on the steps and debated what to do.
"I wander if the Lemieuxs have power? ... No you're not doing that" she thought aloud. "Yes you are..." She got up, slipped her tennis shoes on, and walked out the door in her sweat pants tee shirt. She ran over to the Lemieuxs knowing it wasn't a good idea, and was practically drenched when she arrived at the door. She rang the doorbell. About a minute later the door opened- she noticed they still had power. She then noticed who was standing there in just his boxers with a towel around his neck. It was an awkward silence at first.
"hi... uhm, are the Lemieuxs here?" she asked, trying not to let her eyes stray.
"uh no they're out.. somewhere.." Sid answered.
"oh"
"can i help?" He asked timidly.
"well nobody's home and our power went out. I think it's something with a fuse or something. i don't know." she replied, trying to make it seem like she was fine.
"well i think i can try to fix it.. if you want me to, i mean." Sid rubbed the back of his neck and hoped she would say yes.
"sure" she began to leave, then stopped. "but put a shirt on... and pants. pants would be appropriate." she turned around and began to walk back in the rain with a sly smile on her face. Sid just shut the door and laughed. He ran upstairs to get dressed.

About 15 minutes later, Sid arrived in red gym shorts along with a gray sweat shirt and Kay let him in. His hair didn't have any of the gel in it (kay hated the gel) and he smelled like heaven, but she held herself back.
"where's your electrical box?" he asked.
"in the basement."
He followed her down to the basement with a flashlight to where the box was. He opened it up and began fiddling with all the wires/switches.
How did i get myself into this, Kay thought. It was so awkward and they weren't saying anything until Kay decided to speak up.
"do you always answer the door like that?" she questioned.
"all the time" Sid said sarcastically. Kay just nodded and couldn't fight the smile that crept it's way across her face. "i took the day off today" he said, briefly glancing at her standing next to him with her arms crossed over her chest.
She thought for a moment then asked, "why?"
"because i wanted to make up for what i did last night" Sid answered plainly.
"i don't know.." she hesitated.
"please" Sid pleaded. He flipped a switch and everything was lit up again. He turned to her and wiped his hands on his sweat shirt. "i want to make it right"
Kay bit her lip and looked around. She was at a loss for words. She didn't want to give up that easy; she was stubborn, but then again, so was he. "fine" she muttered, and began back up the steps as Sid followed. They went to the front door.
"i'll pick you up at seven tonight." He informed.
"I won't hold my breath" Kay replied. Sid just hung his head and let himself out the door. She watched him walk away and sighed. "look on the bright side, the storm is over." she said to herself.
